Another mufflerectomy thread - Need advice on my tip...

Featured Replies

HI all

I've been wanting to change the standard vrs box box for a while, the tip has corroded and really lets the car down!

I've been trying to decide on a tip that would look good so that I can do a mufflerectomy. I'm not going for performance I just want the looks.

I've found one on ebay which looks pretty much the same as the Vrs tip, have a look here. Not sure how that would be welded onto a pipe though?

Or go for more of a Miltek look and get a twin, like this one.

I'm thinking the Vrs one lookalike does look pretty similar? Really undecided!

My twin tip looks like this

I've decided I don't like it so I'm getting it changed for this

5.5" pretty much like the standard style but doesn't have those 2 holes inside which I don't like because they get dirty far to fast!

Nothing fits the recess better that the standard style tip IMO

Argh that makes me even more undecided! I actually like the twin you have at the moment.

Where did you get yours done, not too far from me!

I usually prefer a twin exhaust (which is what I've got), but I think on the Fabia a large oval looks best (like Gary's old one). Just IMO.

Where abouts are you from mate? I got it done at a place in Angelsey, he's a great bloke and a good excuse for a day out ;)

My opinion, standard oval tip suits the lines of the fabia

I've got a twin on mine although it's a back box and not a mufflerectomy and I think it suits it.

IMO if you just want to replace it to make it look better go oval but if you want it to look modified go twin. Both suit it so doesn't matter too much.

Oval tip seems to be winning here!

I'm on the Wirral and always in North Wales. :) How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

That's a good way to look at it, I'd like the standard look but finding it difficult to find an oval tip i like. If it was oval I want it exactly the same as standard which is hard to find. Not too convinced on the ones I've linked, unsure on how it would be after a pipe was welded on the inside, could imagine it blowing back!

Not to far then mate, mine was £70 IIRC :)

Nope! I can get a good 60mpg down the a55 to :giggle:

That's a pretty decent price, I Quite like your twin tip to be honest, would you be wanting to keep it once you've gone for the oval?

I prefer heading towards Holyhead rather than on the way back it's alot more uphill on the way back :p

Tbh mate I'm going to be selling the Mufflerectomy and tip soon since I'm getting a silencer put in with the new tip, only going for a silencer as I have a decat too so it's a tad loud :(

You'd need a reducer to get it to fit, but it does looks good, if I could alternate then I would but the tip I bought will make things easier :)

I'll send him an email and see how much it's going to cost then work out how soon I'm gonna get it done, would like it done ASAP but had to she'll put £820 on insurance yesterday :(

What colour VRS have you got mate?

  • Author

Not a good time of year to have to pay that :(

Is the new pipe bigger than standard hence the reducer?

I've got the black one in my pic <<. Got new wheels now though!

Not at all mate, mind you its not to bad as I dont spend much on my car in the winter as I cant be arsed going out in the cold to fit stuff :p

Yes mate the mufflerectomy is 2.5 inch where as the standard system is 2 inch. Sounds so much nicer with the 2.5 inch pipe, they just dont sound right with a 2 inch mufflerectomy.

Yer I've seen some with the two different sizes.

Let me know when your getting the new one on mate :)

Sorry for the thread revival but I'm considering a mufflerectomy myself and just had a few questions. Is the standard system generally cut right up by the cat and replaced with a 2.5 inch bore the whole way through or is it just the back box that gets replaced?

Cheers.

Normally the back box but if you want it from the cat then go for a Piper cat back which you can get with a discount from the forum, around £210 delivered.
