1.4 vRS - New Engine

Featured Replies

So..... grab a cuppa and here's my story.

Driving along to work happily and heard a strange rattle noise. Exhaust module warning light begins to flash. I pull over and reduce speed to a much slower pace and all is good. A few more instances of this, then solid Exhaust module warning light.

Trip to dealers. A few hours of waiting and called back over to the service desk where I was handed coffee {needed} and the words "can't drive it home", "low compression on cylinder 1" and "being investigated".

Two days later of being in an Assist car, get the news that the top of Piston 1 was cracked. New engine on order and authorised under warranty.

The vRS was delivered to me in May 2011, covered 31K with the only problem being a high usage of oil compared to other cars I've had. Never really kept an eye on oil consumption but estimating no more than 3 ltrs in 10k.

Good thing or not? - that the original front tyres were replaced at 28k.

Collected her yesterday. I asked about running it in, advice was just to drive normally. So except for the revs at the top end, it's had a varied style of driving so far. The first engine was gradually introduced to higher revs over the first 1000.

We'll see how we go with engine number two!

Cheers

Mine was built June 2011 and am waiting to complete my miles for consumption test.

I'm guessing all vrs models are going to eventually have a problem until changed to this new cthe engine...

Sorry to hear this, at least you are not alone in this though.

Add your experience to the poll started by EvilMiyagi on the vRS. I am really looking forward to the result.

I would suggest you rev it to the red line as well.... obviously not all the time, but drive it "normally" including full revs for an overtake ;)

+1 also let the oil temp rise to atleast 70 degrees before giving it a welly :)
