1.8Tsi Scout odd noise

Featured Replies

1.8Tsi Scout purchased new end of July 2010 with 15800 miles currently on clock.

Coming home tonight and I noticed an odd noise which was most prominent at 2000rpm.

Hard to descripe but make a droning 'waw, waw, waw, waw, waw' sound and you'll not be far off :-)

At first I thought it was a transmission noise but when I arrived home I had the Mrs rev her to 2k and it sounds like it's coming from the engine bay.

Second thought was it might be the alternator belt. Stopped the engine and poured a bit of water on the belt but it made no difference.

Any ideas what it may be ?

For continuity in case anyone else has similar symptoms. Called in at the dealers today ( Bickertons superb as usual ) and a Tech had a listen. He thinks it maybe the aircon compressor. Car booked in so they can get their stethoscope on to make sure.

I'll update in due course.

OK Put this one to bed. Car been in today and had Compressor and Dryer replaced.

Thanks for updating the thread, interesting to know why it failed so early?

Well we know its a weak point. Looking around their seems to be a fair few that have failed around the same time or just out of warranty.

Excellent service from Bickertons ( especially Vanessa as usual ) and a very nice brand new CityGo as a loaner.
