ASR LIGHT FLASHING LIKE MAD AND BOOST DROP!?!?!?!?!?!

Featured Replies

Hi All

I dont no if any one can help but............. my ASR light flashes like mad and cuts all power for about 30-40 seconds then i get it back?????

I have a stage one map ( 196 bhp 235 nm torque) a de-cat and a full 2.5 ss system.

Do you think it might be the map thats messing it up?

If i drive with the ASR off its no problum and i get massive wheel spin but then the boost peek drops from 17-19 psi to 4-5 psi and i have to turn the car off and then back on to get my boost back?

Any info/help whould be grand,

Thanks Marko

VCDS diagnostic needed. Your car is going into limp so you will have a code logged.

Wheel spin sensor possibly. Cars thinking wheel spinning cuts the power to stop spinning.

Niver herd of that sensor before, if i get it on a code reader will it pop up as a code?

Aka ABS sensor

Yes should show a code.

Im a bit confused with this but IM hoping someone can help,

I read something on this forum about running your car with the MAF unplugged and if it runs better it means the MAF is f*cked, I have unplugged my MAF and it runs like a totally different car now, 100 time better and then some!?!?!?!?!?

When I got the car the MAF wasn't plugged in and sins I plugged it back in I have been having all of the above ( if reading this in my thread) problems:

Going into limp mode all the time.

Dropping boost from 19psi to 5psi,

ASR light flashing like mad and cutting all the power,

Having to switch the car off then back on to get it back to normal.

Now no problems boosts like mad right up to 19psi and no power cutting out,

BUT now the ASR light is constantly on.

WTF!!!!!??????!!!!!??????!!!!!!?????!!!!!?????!!!!!!???

ANY HELP WOULD BE BRILLIANT AS IM ONE STEP AWAY FROM TORCHING IT!!!

Thanks Marko

The MAF is kanckered, whoever flogged to you unplugged it so it ran good.

Buy a new genuine one and you'll be good to go.

The ASR light will stay on because it's not working whilst the MAF is unplugged, it need the MAF working to work.

It is a new MAF ( 8 month old boch one ).

Surely it cant be f*cked allredy?

Marko

If it runs better unplugged then it's goosed, did you buy it or the person who sold it to you ???

i did, euro part's bosch special, is it possibal that my car was mapped to fun with no MAF?

* Run

I'm sure it could but doubt it would have been.

So lets start from the beginning, YOu bought the car with the maf unplugged and then bought a new maf how long ago ??

Right my story goes,

I got the car with the MAF unplugged, it had an atmospheric D/V on it and a cone filter so close to the engine that it got hot to the touch, and it had the stage one on it.

I have since fitted the std air box, splitter valve, NEW MAF ( 6-8 month ago), full 2.5" ss system with de-cat, skoda coil recall, thats the engine story so far.

Marko

Got you now.

Your MAF is knackered ... lol

Was it running crap from day one of the MAF ??

Take it back to Eurofarts and get them to swap

wen i put the new MAF on it, it didnt realy make any diff, thats y i was thinking it may have been maped to run with thw MAF off.

Im trying to get it on VAG-com to see if any coads pop up but im a a dead end now and its doing my head in!!!

Thanks for your help i realy need to sort this prob as i have a FMIC,induction kit and down pipe to fit before i get my stage 2.

You have to get VCDS/Vagcom on it. There will be codes logged on the ECU.

Sounds like your MAF is toast, but it could be the cam position sensor at fault. Someone on here had a similar problem recently where his car ran fine with the MAF unplugged, but it turned out to be the cam position sensor causing the issue, & not the MAF.

VAG 1.8T's really don't like atmospheric DV's either & will throw a code so I'd get that off straight away.

BTW if you buy the eBay CAI only use the pipework & buy a decent cone filter for it K&N etc.

Good call above
