Went to open the door and crack the interior latch has broken an I right in believing that they are cables in the door attached to the latch not a rod, and does anyone know the correct part number for the drivers do

you are right they are cables that attached to the latch and handle.

My problem was I had done all the steps to remove door card as you pointed out, but the door card would not realease from the top of the door(where the window is)

I take it that you disconnected the cable form the door panel and you made sure all screws were out. Also the door card can be tight at the door pin area and you need to tap it upwards from the bottom of the door card.

Yes I removed all screws as per yours and the Haynes manual instructions, was just a tight bugger, can you not do thus with window completely down

You can't do it with window down if you want to replace door lock mechanism, but if you are just replacing interior cable you might be able to, but fiddly

top of the card folds with a lip into a channel, you need to try lifting the card up fom the bottom, can need a bit of force with a few careful jolts upwards on occasion

When I did that it bent and I don't want to need a new one, could dropping the window and manipulating the rubbers help loosen them? I have re bbuilt the door card as waiting on cable

Fixed now guys. Was a ball ache and never want to see another door latch again ever!!!
