Essential Upgrades

Featured Replies

im guna bother you lot again XD

can any 1 list up all the essential upgrades for the VRS FSIT, effectively im talking about brake upgrades, turbo ect.

reason i ask is i do not intend on getting rid of the car any time soon and would like to increase performance, braking efficiency, looks. im no mad max power modder just like standard cars with a few subtle changes that look the biz

cheers

All depends how far u wish to go

Subtle starts with Panel filter,Recurc valve upgrade,Cat back exhaust,Stage 1 remap

Next stage Downpipe,Intake kit,Stage 2 map

Then K04 etc....

Brake wise im running Stage 2 on my Tsi (No track use) and standard brakes work perfect

Someone will always be willing to take your money to upgrade something on your car

My old 530 bhp Rs4'd S4 had Rs4 Discs with Gt3 calipers discs on there own were over 1k...!!!

I probably have quite different priorities to you. First off I have a Diesel estate, which is mostly used for continental touring.

I was going to do quite a bit more, but I first uprated the rear anti roll bar to a Whiteline adjustable because it was horrid to drive as it was. This more or less cured the sickening wallow from the rear.

Next was some anti lift bushes in the front. I got the Superpro ones, they are cheaper. I fitted them with the off set hole at 45° to increase both camber and caster.

The biggest improvement was immediately noticeable after a proper alignment. I think it not only cured any imperfections, like incorrectly set steering wheel and excessive rear camber, which induces sawtoothing, but improved the steering precision and feel too. Having all 4 wheels in their designed location brings the other changes into focus too.

So at that point I stopped. I could now cover ground faster, in more comfort and less drama. I could get more power, but this the feeble output still allows me to cruise easily at 90, even higher if necessary. but I so rarely have need or desire to so, which may be the next thing - soundproofing.

What I enjoy is taking nice lines through the empty French roads, and my car goes as fast as I want where there is a ravine on one side and a rock face on the other and only a little strip of not so good tarmac between.

i noticed on someones thread they fitted porshe 4 pots to their standard discs with only a small amount of grinding. remap is in the pipe lines but as im getting a sports cat in relative months im putting it on the back burner.

current plans are as follows

forge twin air intake (if i can combine with a FMIC)

3" from turbo back

K04 Upgrade

dropped on coil overs

uprated ARBS and poly bushed all round

uprated brakes as i have a lead foot and i find the current 1's on the car are grip far too early (if that makes Sense)

First thing I'd say, nothing is "essential".. :)

However, as a starter for ten:

- Suspension: it's pretty average on the vRS and benefits from some simple upgrades, especially if yours is a TFSI (?) ie pre-FL so must be a few years old now?

Low end, just do springs; eibachs lower 15mm or so and can be run with OE shocks however the ride won't be great, cost about 140.

Mid price: shocks and matched springs, e.g. Bilstein B12 kit (eibachs with B8 dampers) lowering as above but improved ride and handling, £500quid or thereabouts.

Want more lowering? Coilovers gives you full control of your ride height; I had weitec hicon gt and they were great, cost £700ish plus fitting.

Popular other suspenison mods: Anti Lift Kit (whiteline or superpro) plus anti roll bars. Rear gives you most bang for buck improvement.

If you get the car riding and handling right it will be significantly quicker even with stock engine.

Once you've got that right, then a stage 1 map? On a tfsi most people also upgrade the diverter valve to the later revision "d" as the early ones tend to split with higher pressure. Shark or Revo seem to work well on this engine. Should give you circa 240bhp.

Beyond that? stage 2 needs high-flow downpipe and upgraded fuel pump - lots of info on this forum. You're up to about 280 bhp at that level and might also need an uprated clutch.

More than that you're looking at a k04. Check out harry's car, mark_eire etc seems to get around 340bhp or thereabouts.

Brakes: lots of aftermarket kits out there to suit your wallet (anything for a Mk5 golf gti will fit). Most bang for buck is the NQSBBK (not quite so big brake kit). Lots of info on that if you google or search on the mk5gti forum as this was developed by member DaveB on that forum. Essentially that's a new set of carriers to allow the fitment of 4 piston brembo calipers from a boxster on your OE 312mm rotors. Ebay calipers are around 200 a set, fitting kit about 150 IIRC? Lighter, stiffer caliper with increased squeeze but still nicely balanced with oe rears.

HTH?!

If I were to do it again I'd go straight to K04 and a stage 1 style map. You'd get a massive increase in power for little cost. Secondhand turbo, injector and pipe work can be bought quite cheaply.

Add the uprated pump, exhaust and map and the fun really starts!

As you can see, I've done quite a few upgrades in the past. In my opinion, the best bang for buck upgrades were the stage 1 remap and the rear anti roll bar. Both made a huge difference and totally transformed the car.

All the other upgrades since have further improved the car to the point where it's worlds away from a standard one, however, the ones mentioned above made the most noticeable difference.

As above the rear arb really does make a big difference. The Walk bushes are also a big improvement to the handling. Both can be purchased and fitted for under £500 too.

sort of cash im a looking at for a full conversion ?

You can get the while kit for around £600-700 if you look hard enough, then there's fitting (I did mine myself) and the remap.

I'm the west side of the river mate, you'll probably see my car hooning about. It's a silver combi with tints and anthracite wheels. I can highly recommend Matt at Volkscraft on Marsh Barton. He's an ex Seat Master Technician but left to setup his own business. He's done all my services and mods and lets me get my hands dirty too. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Go speak to him and tell him Nick sent you.

WALK = Whitleine Anti Lift Kit.

The bushes on the Walk are already set into the mounts and are therefore easier to fit than the superpro ones you have to press in yourself.
