Anybody know what the compression ratio is on a 1.4 tsi Vrs? What should it be psi wise

Boost is measured in psi and compression ratio is measured as a ratio 10:1 for example. You can't mix the them

Yes this is what I mean, my car had melted the spark plug on cylinder 4 but the garage said their us nothing wrong but I have taken my car to a friend that run a compression test and it only went to 90, is this right? Also using a lot of oil even after the breather fix,

90psi? was that an average across the cylinders? What were the individual cylinder results? As said above mine made between 185-187psi across the 4 cylinders which is a 1.8% deviation between the 4 cylinders which is very good. Allegdly VAG say a deviation between the cylinders of 10% is acceptable.

If your making 90psi id say there is an issue. My oil usage according to APR went higher just before the piston failed.

Ye, 90 psi is the highest I got on all four cylinders, they were all at 90 psi, the spark plug failed last week and the roadside mechanic fixed the faulty plug and told me that their is something wrong with the engine but when I took the car to the garage and shown them the spark plug they plugged the car in and found nothing wrong (told them that they would not find any thing because the faulty plug has been replaced) all so, the car is struggling to get any decent MPG, 29 mpg now, one week ago before they did the plugs I was getting 37 mpg, I drive the same roads every day to work and back,

If your friend knows what he is doing and that compression test is correct,

then best get the car into a Skoda Dealership and have them carry out a Compression Test.

Call Skoda UK and tell them the Breather Mod was not succseful, what has happened now & get them to Arrange a time to suit to have your car collected & a courtesy car provided.

?Did the other plugs get changed while in, or even removed and checked?

You are being messed about.

Consumer Rights & your Warranty, best use them.

It's going in tomoz, yes they got changed because I have the old ones lol, the dealership wanted to charge me for the plug but I complained to SUK because they are surpose to last 40k mile and the car as only 20k on the clock,

The garage want to charge me for the compression test, and told me they can only do what skoda tell them to do, because its in again for the oil consumption test again, do I phone SUK?

Could you fill us all in on what exactly happened, what test were carried on with what results and what exactly were the reasons given for engine replacement?

I had the oil breather mod fitted and that worked for a little while then it went in again for the oil consumption test, drive 600 miles took it back then got a phone call a couple of days later saying they were goin to put a short engine in, when I went to drop it it then said it is having a full new engine, 700 miles later and it's not used a drop of oil! ????

OK, that's what happened but did you get any explanation, fault description, reasons for the full engine change, anything?

Or just new full engine in? If you didn't, could you please ask if you can be bothered of course :)

The reason they replaced is because the breather mod failed so the nxt step was a new engine, (that is their explanation)

I think they missed the first step by actually diagnosing what is wrong with the engine and why is it using oil at all.

Other mods were available, like different piston rings for example. CTHE engines have a whole raft of different parts in them compared to the previous serial.

On one hand it is good as it looks like Skoda UK is authorising engine replacments without playing cat and mouse but on the other hand, and very frustratingly at that, there is still no official VAG info on what is actually wrong with 1.4 twincharger making some units use copious amounts of oil.

Could you ask them at some point ?

They are changing faulty engines quickly.

Customers now need to push for New Cats & a 3 year Warranty on the Replacement Engine.

I was always saying, that unless the oil drops from underneath the car the only way out is through the exhaust so cats have to be replaced when faulty, oil using engine is replaced as well.

As for the warranty in my mind it is a given that new, complete replacement engines have he same warranty as factory new units. Are you saying george that this is not the case???

As i understand it,

Phil got new Turbo and Cats, but no Warranty Extension.

Never heard of anyone getting 3 years Warranty on the Replacement Engine, just offered a Free service.

But then the Service Book is not getting Stamped with the likes of . Replacement engine fitted @ 9,000 miles.

So in the future some owner will maybe have a 4 year old 36,000 mile car with a 27,000 mile engine and 36,000 mile cats.

Service Records are important to my mind for Safety factors changing Belts, chains etc.

Time that VOSA get involved and see what Skoda/VAG are playing at.

Someone can be getting Service work done, plug changes etc on a used car they just bought,

and it could be an almost new Engine Installed before the car was traded in, (good thing)

the Customer that is not told will have no why of knowing.

Skoda need to have the Service Book Written up and be sure its all clear on the Dealership Computer System.

Yep - new engine, turbo and cat due to part of an exhaust valve missing. I'll give the garage their due; they knew their onions. Compression test showed problem with one cylinder. Showed me (blurred) pics from an endoscope cam put down the plug hole showing missing bits of a valve. Head off, scored cylinder, missing valve. Pics went to Skoda (don't know if it was UK, Belgium, or straight to VAG Germany) and new engine authorised. In their words, they fitted a new turbo and cat as they wanted to be safe rather than sorry (consequential failure). 8 days from opening the bonnet to being ready for collection. Engine had already been returned to Skoda/VAG by this point.

No record of a new engine in the service book; should be logged on the VAG system though as he went to a central information file to retrieve the pictures for me. 2200 miles on the new engine and so far, so good. Oil temp still a little higher than before but only a couple of degrees.

'Mobile 1' 5w 30, i put in showed 2 degrees lower temp the same day,

(92*C with their oil, 90*C with the Mobile 1 and it was less inclined to go above 96*C )

that was when i dropped brand new oil that the Skoda Garage had filled it with after a engine rebuild of the Ex Demo car.
