Check Engine Light / Emissions?

Featured Replies

Hi All.

Octavia had been stood for a few months, with a top up charge in between.

Recently I noticed battery had gone flat (had to reset clock) so put it on charge (is newish). Drove the car just around the crescent (few hundred yards) Then put battery on trickle charge to top back up. Unfortunately sleet fell and blew a little under the bonnet & onto engine. (last week ish).

Upon starting the car today, the check engine light came on (static) with a note to emissions control on matrix.

Drove 40 mile round trip, switching ignition off halfway. Not reset though. Here's hoping.

I need to check fuel cap, and any dampness under bonnet, as i forgot to dry it off. Bloody british weather!

I will take to garage if necessary but believe it can correct itself sometimes, (depending what problem is).

Advice on anything else to check / look at, will be gratefully received, OR is the nod to emissions likely correct & what is the likely diagnosis of this. Does it have a dpf?

2005 55plate 1.9tdi octavia eleg est dsg 112k mls. Drove ok today, no problems noticed.

Cheers.

None of the 1.9 TDI engines have a DPF as far as I'm aware so you're fine on that front, if I understand you correctly the light is still on? If so, has the engine been restarted more than five times since it first came on? From memory a one-off error will clear the light if the car starts five times in a row without a problem.

Cheers John.

Only re-started the car once so far, for return journey. Not using the car much at the moment as only use it for work, which is very quiet at this time of year.

Have seen similar info on bing, so hopefully it will clear itself. I will have to use it a bit more to test this.

Thanks for the info. Good to confirm no dpf (hopefully nothing else instead tho).

Tony.

V157 manifold flap motor? (essentially the Anti Shudder Valve)

Have you a friendly Briskodian nearby who can scan the car with VCDS for you?
