Sat Nav unit to reaplace STREAM stereo...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I recently purchased a MK2 2004 1.9tdi Octavia ambiente.

It has the Stream stereo system with the 6cd auto changer in the boot.

I have been reading the forums and having a look on eBay with the view to replace the unit for a sat nav/ stereo unit.

I know of the Skoda Nexus, Columbus, Bolero & Amunsden sat nav stereo units... are all of these compatible with my car on a remove old one & plug in the new one basis??

Are there any massive pro's or con's on a certain one that i should know about??

And im not the biggest DIY person in the world. does anyone know of any places preferably in the south of england that would offer a fitting service if needed??

I know its a lot of questions but any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

There shouldn't be any major issues, if you go for the Columbus you will need to replace the facia surround. Also need some vcds coding. I've just swapped a stream for a bolero and its pretty good, I'm about to fit oem Bluetooth aswell.

Welcome to Briskoda and to Skoda ownership :)

With a 2004 you will need to change the CANBus controller to prevent the battery from being drained.

Other than that, with Columbus (and Amundsen, I think) you'll need the external GPS unit. As Simon says, you'll need a new fascia surround, all of about a fiver from your local dealer.

http://www.octavia-vrs.com has a very good guide for removal and refit of head-units, but it appears to be offline at the moment for some reason :(

Thanks everyone for the info... how would i go about changing the CANBus controller? any idea of the total cost to get it done??

Can gateway is easy to change, it will be behind the glovebox

I offer pre-coded ones

There you go. I can highly recommend Ed.

If you look around, you will find there are many glowing references for Ed on this one. :)

I've been doing a bit of trauling on the internet and have come across the zenec 5600 & the zenec 2010 units, by the look of it these come with the bluetooth phone connection service.

Does anyone have any experience/ knowledge of these?

Is it true that they can be directly fitted without a new canbus controller as they dont drain the battery?

there are a couple of the 2010 units on ebay but i cant find the older 5600 unit anywhere??!!

Another thing to consider if it bothers you is that you won't get Climatronic or PDC info displayed on the Columbus.
