1.8TSi DSG + TMC Tuning box

Featured Replies

I've had a couple of weeks now to evaluate it on this car and initially I wasn't overly impressed in that it felt better but not to the degree I had expected based on experience of using it on my 1.2TSi DSG. It has an adjuster on it (1-9) and it was delivered after reprogramming for my 1.8 set on level 7. I recalled adjusting it up by one (from 6-7) on my previous car and it delivering a small but noticeable improvement. If you went too far it seemed to make things a little jerky in conjunction with DSG. I've now set the box on 8 and it delivers the feel I was expecting plus a good fuel saving. My route to work is very hilly and the difference is understandable with how things work with the DSG box. For example, monitored on one hill, the gearbox selects a lower ratio when climbing, presumably according to a map that compares pedal position with engine revs and load. Given that all other things are equal i.e just one fatbloke in the car, speed is restricted by traffic flow and usually about the same, with no box, the car would change down within the first 100m. With the box on 7, it would stay in 7th until about half way up where the gradient increased. Now on 8, it doesn't change down at all and I recorded a best yet figure for my economy on this trip. Very happy so far and yet to try setting 9.

Setting 9 seems to be just too much, the car is very eager on this setting and delivered ~5% increase in fuel consumption so back to setting 8. I can't recommend these boxes enough though, none intrusive installation, easily removed and as far as I'm concerned a proven track record. Just need to watch my fuelly average rise now!

Fatbloke.... I'm also a fat bloke. I was thinking about a remap in my 1.8 TSI DSG7 Superb but, I'm concerned about the lack of robustness of the DSG7 as I had my clutch pack replaced after only 19,000 miles. Do you notice any clutch slip at all and do you know what your max torque is? Thanks... James
