tonight on the a66 about 25 miles from scotch corner i switched on my main beam and bang lights went off dash lights went off satnav went off !!!

then on it all came on again all dash lights beeping like a maniac needles bounsing around like god knows what all the other lights go away except the pas light so here i am at 70mph with no pas about 70 miles from home :(

manage to get to scotchcorner ok then as i try to get into a parking space i try to turn right and there we go it comes back and has been fine since !!!

anyone else had this ????

needless to say i was scared ****less lol

Blimey, bet that wasn't nice!! I'd get it to a dealer pronto, see they can uncover any error codes, or work out what might have been the cause. Not heard that happen before...

just glad to be home safe really. will tak it in tomorrow tho.

lol - bet it's not done much for your confidence in the car either :thumbdwn:

How old's your vRS?

Steve

You shouldnt have much in the way of power steering at 70 anyhow, its not needed. But things flashing and beeping at you can be worring..lol

lets just say this i could turn the wheel only a few deg when the light came on and required me to litterally hang off the wheel with both hands to get me to turninto the services i have had cars without pas before and the steering was alot heavier that tht it almost felt stuck

No power steering is fun though, I had that in an old Nissan Sunny of mine, only car that I had to keep the revs up to stop the stalling and then loss of steering/brakes.

Hopefully the dealer can just reset something and let you get on your way. At least it has the warranty so you shouldnt need to payout a bean.

Mine is in at the moment because all the dash lights keep going out and the power steering fails intermitantly. It's only done the steering thing at idle though.

mines been traced back to loose battery terminal, i hope its fixed it yet somehow i dont think its that. let me know if you get any more details bud

What type of PAS does the Fabia have? If it's the hydraulic type then it's going to me mega heavy when it fails as you are powering the PAS pump as well. I'm not so sure on the electric ones...

I expect it's hydraulic. No idea if it is or not, but if you turn too quickly you push against it. Only done it to me once, but my old hyundai used to do it regularly when pulling out of a gap. Hard lock one way and trying to spin the wheel back quickly to straighten up used to always cause it.

The PAS is an Electrical pump.. Could be dangerous.. I would ring dealer ASAP!! Or even get Skoda rescue to tow it in...

If this happens at 30-50mph at night.. You lose your lights and PAS....

cheers

well it happened at 70 and at 12:30 at night and i lost them both lol :D

Battery terminal are left loose whilst in transport so it can be pulled off in an emergency, looks like it wasnt checked on PDi unless someone has had it off since then.

i did when fitted sat nav but was fitted very tightly after that but then it was serviced :(

The Fabia's PAS is electro-hydraulic, ie power assistance is provided by a hydraulic pump powered by an electric motor.
