Heated Seats - Lincoln

Featured Replies

Bit of an ask for a favour really.

Who here has OEM fitted heated seats and are nearby to Lincoln?

I have mine fitted, however I'd like to get them working using the OEM switches, and it's going to be a whole lot easier if I have access to one that's wired up already, so that I can see what the switches are supposed to be doing etc.

Any help would be appreciated :)

i would also like to know if you ever sort it please

Ahh maybe a bit of confusion here, I should have probably explained a bit better.

I bought and installed a heated seat kit. This doesn't use the OE controller, it has its own. It's controlled by its own 5 position switches.

This all works, however I don't like the switches that are in the dash. As both the OE and these are 5 position rheostats, I was hoping to wire them up using the standard switches to drive the after market controller.

Problem is, the switches that came with the kit have 3 connections, the OE switches have 4.

I assume that one is a low power for the illumination, 1 is ground, 1 is permanent 12v and the other is the output.

Ideally I'd like to measure the output of the OE switches on all of the positions to see if there is any possibility that the output is the same as the aftermarket switches.

This is what the switches look like at the minute.

As you can see, they don't exactly look OE

Well despite the crummy looking switches, I'm sooo glad I got these fitted. Heated leather on a cold morning is so nice and lovely :)

Still it would be even better if I can get the OE switches working. If anyone is near by I'd be very happy if you could help out.

So what your essentially asking: On the OE switch, what does each pin position represent.

From a practical point of view a picture will probably suffice. connecting it wrong won't kill the unit may pop the led in the switch though if incorrect  .

I've never seen the OE switch but does it also light up when side lights are on? Perhaps that could be the 4th connection. (other 3 are: +ve, ground, LED when on).

Yeah, also, when turned on, what voltages are output from each pin when the switch is moved into each position.

Then I can compare them with the switches that I've already got and see if they're similar.

Hazard a guess, I think these switches (OE and after market) are just glorified variable resistors.. Considering both work with same 12v system your looking thought patterns of ~ 25%,50%,100% output. Its not a requirement to know what voltage at what step, unless you want a specific heat setting ie I want 25% but not 30% power, then additional resisters and what not needs to be added.

Additional connections are just for LEDs (which will be a steady or switched 12v).

I've already tried wiring them up, and didn't get anywhere.

Admittedly it was in December when it was freezing.

The switches that came with the kit have a little circuit and some sort of microchip.

I'm guessing that this is to control the LED that changes brightness when you change the heat setting, however the OE doesn't do this.

On stalking a little (I wanted to know how you installed the heated elements!)

I found this thread of yours: http://www.briskoda....-seat-switches/

Specifically this:

I want to say yellow black and yellow red is ground and 12v... Worse case, it doesn't work, but pretty sure it wont be on reverse polarity.

The other two you'll have to find out yourself lol. :giggle:

Ah, the elements were installed and everything was wired in by an auto electrician local to me.

I'll have another look at this on Saturday I think :)

Hi, I know this is an old post but I could do with some help.

My drivers heated seat stopped working one day while driving. It just randomly went off and never worked again :(

I've checked all connections under the seat and can't see anything wrong. I've also swapped the control units from the passenger seat to no avail - so it can't be the control unit. I've bought new switches also to no avail.

So I'd like to do a continuity test on the element but I'm finding it hard to tell from the diagram what connections to actually test!

It's a fabia elegance 2002

Thanks

Howard

does the passenger heated seat work? if so cant you remove both seats and swap them over then if drivers side seat works in the passenger side you know the seat and elements are ok

Yes the passenger's side does work so that's not a bad idea, I was just hoping that I could just connect up a multi metre to the right pins underneath rather than the fuss of swapping the seats over!

Thanks for your help
