Fabia Vrs Thermostat (or lack of)

Featured Replies

Hi all, need some advice please, have a 2005 Fabia vrs with 147k , owned 3 plus years, rescently while driving with heater on the temp guage drops , it never goes over the half way mark, saw a bit of water residue round the expantion bottle top so i changed the cap. It has been using a bit of water so i thought that could be that issue. Yesterday my mate did a service, thought he could put in a new thermostat, no thermostat in there. It starts and drives sweet as a nut. Had timing belt kit put on at 97k, told will not need one til 170k, would really like to replace the water pump but dont want to waste money. Any help would be much appreciated thanks Billybob1

People usually take the them out after it had a head gasket job.

they are taken out when using radweld

\thanks for the replies, still not sure what to do. so its either had radweld or a head gasket, any more ideas cheers

Yeah usually taken out when it's got head gasket problems not sure about the radweld comment used radweld before never heard Off or had problems with radweld and havin a thermostat in

Hi, doesn't sound like you've got any particular starting or running issues. If you continue to lose water you'll need to monitor/review to determine if it's leakage or internalised? I ran for a long time in my Felly with a defective thermostat & only recently got round to replacing it.

Timing belt wise I'd go for a change between 150 & 160k & it's often prudent to do the water pump at the same time.

on the back of quite a few rad weld / radiator / cooling system leak stoppers is says to remove thermostat so all the water heats equally. it helps seal leaks better
