Featured Replies

As title cleaning car for mot grease on drivers side front wheel is it wheel bearing no noises of yet any help appreciated

where on the wheel, inside? probably the cv boot either split or not tightened properly/cable tie broken

yes inside wheel had a clutch fitted last week was wandering if had that side off as well il have another look cheers

Yep pretty sure it will be the CV gaiter that has either split or pulled off.

Or a scruffy mechanic got grease on the tyre and didn't bother to clean it off again.

just had wheel off cv boot has no visable splits even thou it had grease on,started car put on both locks nothing that i can see at all clips are the metal lock type. To be honest boot looks brand new grease on wheel like a green colour, little bit on bottom of wishbone.

Could be assembly / protective grease. CV grease is black (moly), bearing grease is yellow (lithium).

My driver's wheel has grease all over the inside. 99% sure it is the CV boot and will get it sorted at the same time as my turbo replacement.... They do seem to split/break quite a lot. It could be my power levels have something to do with it. Nearly always the (longer) offside driveshaft as well.

That could be it; grease on the outside of the boot got thrown off and landed on the tyre wall. Scruffy mechanical work again, but if the boot's ok sure and it'll be fine.

Also, I've seen moly greases look green when new.

+1 when new it can have a green tint to it, but it is mainly black / graphite grey

Believe it or not, that's where the grease on the tyre came from, and I withdraw earlier comments about scruffy work.
