Engine shudder and loss of power when cold.

Featured Replies

Hi there everyone

I have got more issues with my 05 plate TDI PD 2.0 140BHP.

I have had some electrical issues with glow plugs on cylinders 2,3 and 4. Couldn't start when we had the big freeze just gone so I have just replaced the wiring loom under the camshaft cover (a local mechanic did it anyway) I drove home yesterday it was fine no issues what so ever.

I got into the car this morning started the engine and it started to shudder and shake the whole car, I hit the accelerator and I could tell something was wrong. It was gaining revs as it should have and was before. So i decided to pull out and try to drive it but realised I have lost at least 50% of the engine power. I parked the car back up switched the engine off and sat there thinking what the hell is going on. Tried ringing my local mechanic but he wasn't answering, I had to take my son to the child minder and then drive to work as I normally do.

I decided to give it one more go, started to turn the key, engine came to life as normal no more shudder and when I pulled out everything was back to normal. Now I'm going back to see my local after work but if anyone had the same issue can you please advise me what this could be.

Just to add to the whole thing the battery was pulled out as well now when I got past 60 miles I use to get a warning to refuel now it doesn't tell me anything.

Thanks for all your help! Confused and worried!

Ok looks like the new wiring loom is causing the following fault codes.

16688/P0304/000772 - Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected

18077/P1669 - Valve for Pump - Jet: Cylinder 4 (N243): Electrical Malfunction

The orange engine warning light has come on as well as well now I have a message "Emissions Workshop" also the engine is in limp mode.

Any ideas where do I start? Shall I follow these new codes or perhaps get a new loom again? I got the part from TPS they said I now have to take the car to the dealer and if they diagnose this to be the faulty loom they will carry out replacement and labor free.

Not too sure what to do next my local mechanic says he's done the job properly and there is nothing else he can do. My problem is I did not have these issues previously.
