vrs front suspension squeak

Featured Replies

hi all

have noticed while traveling along that there's this annoying squeaking noise and first suspected the suspension so just went out and pushed down and up on the front and at first didn't hear anything but as it went down quickly pulled up and then it started and continues to do so down and up so my question is could it be the shocks starting to fail??

thanks all

Squeaking or creaking? First suspect is normally anti-roll bar bushes, or the sleeves underneath the anti-roll bar bushes.

Springs may squeak if unseated, or cracked, shocks not normally. Unless they're really bad.

Aside from the usual ARB issues, my first thought was of dry wishbone rubbers. If you can tell which side it is, put a few drops of brake fluid (no type, mistake or windup) on the bushes on that side wishbone, and it should stop.

driving to and from work the sound seems to get worse when u pull away it sounds awful its very much creaking but when you go over bumps in the road even over smooth tarmac it makes a squeaking noise so i would say its both creaking and squeaking :S help!!

right just got my bro to check all the bushes underneath arb bushes drop link bushes and the front springs all seems fine and also i notice the noise wasnt there the only noise my brother notice was the shocks didnt sound too great when you pressed down and up on the car so the question is could it be anything else or have the shocks had enough ?

thanks all

Still could be the arb bushes. More often than not it's the sleeves underneath the bushes that are causing the problem. These need to be smashed off, and the bar cleaned up, and smaller 17mm bushes fitted.

Shock top mounts is another possibility.

Ah ok just my brother did check as said and he said they were solid but for peace of mind will change them for superpro bushes my brother did also check for these sleeves but don't think he could see them in guessing they ain't needed once bushes our uprated ??

You can't really see anything until you remove the bushes. The sleeves are a hard plastic collar, very brittle though, that tend to corrode underneath and get noisy. And you can't replace them. Just smash them off and be done with it. At some point, if you're keeping the car any great length of time you will have to do this anyway, so it won't be time/money wasted. And once done, at least you'll know for certain.
