Few niggles

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I picked up my 2006 vrs petrol today, absolutely love the car but there a couple of little problems with it and a few things I'd like to change.

Firstly when I got it home and removed the spare wheel there's a small puddle in the wheel well but the boot carpet is dry?

Secondly half way home the rear wiper decided to stop half way across the rear screen and now won't work at all?

The other two things I'd like to change are to do with the locking of the car, the mrs has a mk5 gti and all the doors and boot unlock with one touch of the key whereas I have to double press it on the octavia, can I alter this?

Also again on the golf, the car locks at 10mph and only unlocks when the key is removed.

Are these things I can do myself through a menu on the car or with sequences or does it have to be done with a machine at a garage?

does it have maxidot?

If so then you can set it up so it locks at 10mph

Maxi dot?

maxidot display on the dash.

Do you have a picture of a car and it shows which doors are open on the instrument pannel? If you do then you have maxidot display and can set it to lock from there

This applies to the pre-facelift only (2004 > 2009).

Maxidot is basically a more comprehensive OBC (on-board computer) that allows access to more menus and enables you to adjust more settings...

Standard

Water in the spare wheel well is a common issue on the OCtavia.

There are a number of different potential causes (poor boot seal is one) but the most common is a leaking rear washer pipe.

The pipes can leak anywhere along it's length but the most common spot is behind the CD multichanger and around the rear wiper motor.

The fact your rear wiper has packed in would suggest it is the latter on your car.

Does the wash function still work? The washer nozzle is renowned for blocking. Continued opereration of the rear wash forces the pipe to fail, flooding the rear wiper motor and filling the spare wheel well.

You need a member with VCDS then, or visit a garage.

VCDS is a laptop with the required software and a cable that connects into the cars brain. There is a dedicated forum to help find a willing member near you.

Setting the one-press opening and anti-hijack feature (auto-lock above 15mph) is quite simple once you have access.

Just for the record, on a 2006 car, even if you have Maxidot you can't set the anti hijack feature......you need VCDS.

I think you can set it in maxidot in later cars (post facelift?)

The washer still works yes, the water in the wheel well wasn't soapy just seemed like rain water

Thanks for all the fast info guys,

Open the boot and squeeze the rubber seal between the top of the bumper and the boot catch.

Does water squirt out of the drain holes?

If the seal has failed and is holding water when you shut the boot and squash the seal it dribbles into the boot and down into the spare wheel well.

My car is late 2007 and has maxidot and I don't think I can alter this feature. It already locks above 10mph but when I flick throught the menus I can't see one that would give the option to change any settings....am i missing something?

No......I don't think you can alter this in Maxidot in any pre facelift car.

I think it is possible in post facelift Maxidot.

It's not called anti-hijack in Maxidot...

Setup > Convenience > Door Open > Automatic.

Options are:-

- Door Lock = [ON] - automatically locks doors when car goes over 15-20km/h

- Door Unlock = [ON] - automatically unlocks doors when car is switched off and key fob is removed from the ignition barrel.

That option is not there in my 2006 L&K.

Can you do it on both your cars?

I can do it on my 56 plate vrs with maxidot

I can do it on my 57 vRS, but not on the 08 Scout (it doesn't have Maxidot).

Hmm..........Mine is an early 2006 (Jan/55 plate). Maxidot must have been expanded/improved some time between then and early 2007.

Ok so I got in the car this morning and the rear wiper now works, not very fast and the washed doesn't seem to work but its done a few wipes and has now gone back to the correct position,

Ill be looking for a leaky pipe later

The cap on the rear wiper mount pops up and you can remove the nozzles. If you activate the rear wash you should see a jet of wash come out. That'll show it's just the nozzles that are blocked. Happens all the time if you use cheap screen wash. Tesco stuff is especially bad, leaves a hard brown residue inside it.

what convenience module do you have?
