It does not look good value to me. It is still 14.5k for a pretty boring car.

It's still more than a fully speeced up Roomie that has more space as is more family friendly. SUK started way too high with pricing, to push Rapid now, a "0% VAT on 0% VAT" offer would be required.

Perhaps that was the idea from those simply clever marketing people. Start it priced too high, then after a while allow the dealers to start discounting and adding the special offers from head office and hey presto, people think wow, I'm going to get a good deal now I think I will buy one.

Of course it is. Many 'special offers' work this way. Think supermarket BOGOF's, the products price is artificially inflated to allow a decent discount in the deal.

This was not a knee jerk reaction by Skoda, but a precisely planned marketing campaign.

Well, you might be right  It's a very unusual strategy for a car manufacturer though. In fact, I don't think any of them have done this before. I think Skoda have cocked up!

I agree but I think they just took it a bit too far this time with the Rapid, especially at a time when the Octy 2 and Fabia are heavily discounted.

and the only one they had was left ouside in the rain, not even giving it showroom space

Engines are too small to for that size of car & price

Engines are too small to for that size of car & price

The engines aren't the issue - the octy 3 has relatively small engines too - but the interior quality lets it down and the prices don't compare well to the octy 2.

Still a not a very good deal for the basic 'S' trim with no air con.

The engines are small in cc but high on power. I have had a few 1.8's and 2 litres in my time that didn't put out 105PS like the 1.2TSi. We all need to adjust our perspective.

The error Skoda are making at the moment is engine range. My PCP comes to an end in September. I want another petrol DSG. What is my choice?

Had my heart set on an Octavia 1.4 DSG next - what can I have?

I can't have a new Octavia III - only diesels get DSG

Rapid? - 1.4 DSG but only in SE spec not Elegance.

Superb? - love 'em but too big

Yeti? - love 'em. 1.2 DSG? Possibly but 105PS in such a big non-aerodynamic body is a bit sluggish and thirsty.

Roomster? Had an SE Plus diesel as courtesy car and loved it - 1.2 DSG possibility but the SE plus is only available from stock so can't choose spec. Don't like the Roomster Scout's styling.

Citigo or Fabia - too small

Unwilling to go diesel because of the DPF and 3-4 months of winter where I just do mainly short urban journeys.

So there is my choice!! A Rapid 1.4 SE, a Roomster 1.2 SE or a Yeti 1.2 SE/Elegance! Or lose the DSG!

I may just drop out of the PCP and stick with what I have! Best car I ever owned!

Eccles; I was going to suggest a 1.4TSI DSG Yeti because they are available... then I checked - not in the UK!

Or an Octy 1.8TSI DSG - same answer.

So as usual many of the problems stem from Skoda UK. You could spec up a Rapid SE to Elegance levels?

I am confused about DPF being an issue still floating round.

The current direct injection engines have no where near the problems with a DPF that the previous engines had, as long as you are doing at least 1 20mile + journey a week, I do what is considered an extremely low miles in mine & have never had any DPF issues.

I am confused about DPF being an issue still floating round.

The DPF in our Yeti has a habit of going into overdrive with active regenerations during the cold winter months. Last winter over a few weeks the filter was regenerating almost daily. Skoda was unable to explain why, so put it down as normal behaviour and when I challenged that, and suggested my previous DPF equipped Skoda behaved totally differently, the answer was the DPF in the previous car was a older model :wonder:

This year when it started getting over active again, I bought a lower grill cover from Poland. So far so good, as the regenerations are happening much less frequently than before. So it appears in my cars case anyway, the DPF doesn't like the cold and needed a 'scarf' :giggle:

Touching wood I've not as yet had any warning lights but the amount of times it's cleaned itself I'm not surprised, oh and the car does very few short journeys, most trips being the 36 mile rural A road commute to work; 72 miles a day 5 days a week.

Eccleshill you will probably able to get the Octy 3 Elegance with 1.4 DSG by the time your PCP expires. Skoda have already released the price for them although as of last week you could not order them yet. I think they are being released later in the year bs part of the MY 2014 update.

If you refer back to your post on the Octy 3 forum you will see that Preston Motors have a Rapid Elegance 1.4TSi DSG at Sheerness. They are going to confirm the price to me next week. If they have managed to order then Skoda must be willing to supply. Like you I had set my heart on a new Octy 3 Elegance with the petrol DSG, so maybe like the Rapid it's possible with the right dealer pushing Skoda.

While I can see the heavily discounted price as reasonable, my wife's 2012 Roomster SE Plus with climate control and parking sensors cost a similar amount without haggling (0% VAT offer). Just goes to show how insane the current SUK Rapid list prices are.

Hmmm never looked at vauxhalls or fords then?

When looking at a little car I looked at the vauxhall corsa list price was £17k knocked down to £14k which was still £4k too much for a 1.2na city car. Offers later on for pre registered cars was under £10k.

can imagen once the new Octavia comes out a fully spec'd one will be discounted on offers to be very well priced.
