VRS - keep and modify or sell?

Featured Replies

I've just bought a bog standard 2004 VRS in black with 125,000 miles. Lovely, well looked-after car.

But thanks to this place, the 'bug' has bitten me and I 'need' a remap, a rear arm, intake etc etc etc. (Slippery slope)

If I buy all this stuff myself (over time) will I be able to recoup the money I've spent on upgrades when I come to sell, or should I just sell it now, put a bit of cash on top and buy one that's been sorted and had all the bits done? I'm no mechanic and will have to pay garage prices for the work.

In the past I've always thrown loads of money at cars and lost it when I came to sell. Will this be the same?

Difficult question, thanks for any replies.

Sell the fabia and buy an ibiza cupra tdi

Basically got all the mods on it already

Pd160 garrett turbo

Ibiza cupra bushes

Pd160 intake

Seat sport fmic

Ap 4pot 312mm front brakes

Will save you a fortune and its already done!

Choose to map the ibiza and it will be 195bhp

Mods on the fabia do not recoup money whatsoever. They just reduce your potential sales market

i think you answered your own question there lol

if you spend a fortune on the car i would imagine it will be unlikely to get it all back buuttttt it will be your car and how you want it .... rather than how some one else wanted it

You'll not make much back on mods when you sell unless you remove them and sell the parts. As your not fitting them forget this. If you want to do anything a stage 1 map will make the world of difference and be the best value upgrade you do. Save the rest of your cash for repairs as at that sort of mileage you'll have repairs to do sooner rather than later.

As always, you're reducing the market appeal of your car. The majority want to buy unmodified and modify at their will, knowing what's been done as they do it. I've seen some highly modded vehicles go for a little more than an unmodified on this forum, but no way near the price of what some of these guys have spent on upgrades & mods.

I'd treat it like a hobby. If you do it, expect it to cost you money but if you enjoy it, maybe it's not such an issue

It's only really worth it if you can remove the parts to sell, I managed to pretty much make twice as much on mods than I got for the car on my old Fiesta.

I just look at it like an expensive hobby.

The Fabia for me is a keeper, there aren't any other cars I currently like the look of that can do 50-60mpg and still shift along quite nicely!

Your immune systems are shocking, caught the bug already! lol.

Think there are subtle creature comfort mods to the fabia which makes it nicer to drive without going ott. It really depends how much you want to do and what your ultimately looking for.

Just remember it's an all rounder car, you can stretch a little bit of each limit but it will never be best of one thing. You'll be disappointed if you try aim for that.

Common mods are:

Remap

Rear arb

Bushes (console/arb/lower engine mount)

Pd160 intake (imo not worth it)

Brakes

Mufferectomy

Shortening gear shifter

Other supporting mods are things like

Egr delete

Louve/Vent mod

Elephant hose mod

Bonnet lifter

And other range of aesthetics and creature comfort mods.

Imo anything beyond the list is probably going to hit the wallet harder, possibly with dimishing returns. People also tend to upgrade as parts get broken.
