firefox "coupon drop down"

Featured Replies

words are being highlighted in firefox on my computer, and when you hover over them it drops a box to try and sell you things... now I have checked my programs, and addons, and connot locate the file doing this, and haven't authorised it to access the net through zonealarm, so cannot figure out whats wrong?! (unless its just briskoda, and gamestotal (where I have noticed it) that are doing it themselved for advertising...)

can anyone help?

Thanks

just installed, doesn't help, its working in firefox, set everything to disable all ads, they are still comming up! the word "install" you wrote tried to make me win an ipad :( .....

Can I point out the obvious, you have had your PC PWN'ed.

Download and run MALWAREBYTES, and ADAWARE

The other possibility is that a program or add-on you have installed ALSO installed this - either with or without asking for permission. The last time I suffered this it was a silent install from a program called "FoxLingo"; I wrote and complained, and the author re-wrote the program so that it was not installed by default, instead you had to select to enable it from the options menu.

the above scan was done using malwarebytes ... nothing.

Quick or Full scan, ?? might be worth a shot in safe mode too. Full scan of course

what about uninstalling FF, then download and install again?

an option I was going to try later....

I have looked for any of the assosiated programs that hid the ad program,(in my link I posted that I identified it!) and I havent got them either :(

right, must have been one of the browser add-ons I deleted... deleted everything I didn't know what it did... must have been hiding behind somethng like "update checker" lol... got the bugger anyway!

It's a pain in the arse when installing anything downloaded. Everything these days seems to include bloody tool bars and add-ons you don't want. I've regularly got to de-clutter family computers because of it. Some will offer tick boxes but some are like riddle to work out whether you should tick the box or not

Malwarebytes does what it says, target malware; you need something like ADAWARE to target advert programs usually.

Often, just disabling add ons is enough to solve which addon is causing the problem.

I must admit I have had one I have been trying and failing to remove - FBPhotoZoom. I dont have, and never HAVE had a Facebook account, so I dont know where it came from, and the bugger has no remove option.

I have been manually through everything and cannot locate it, so it will have to stay (disabled), until the next time I wipe and reinstall the system.

FBPhotoZoom was noted in the link I posted as having caused adware, people commented saying they removed it and it cured the problem, but they didn't say how.... maybe its "hidden" and the "show everything" option may reveal it..

to confirm my dropdown ads were cured by deleting unwanted browser adons :)

Thanks, I finally found the answer, there is a folder in the Programs directory with the same name, apparently if you delete it, FBPhotoZoom is history. I have just done this and will check to see if it is still around after restarting FF.

OK, I can confirm it is gone.
