Hi all we have snow and went out to start car and nothing all lights etc working but wouldnt turn over. We have tested the battery and it has charge in it. Was told it could be a earth somewhere? Thing is when it goes will run and start perfect for posdibly 2 weeks or more before doing it again. Also struggles to start first time if the heater or lights are on etc while trying to start it because its so intermitent dont think can be altenator or battery etc any help on what to check or look at much appreciated as i need my car to wtart every time as am a window cleaner and need it to be reliable. Also i looked on ebay for a tuning box and they do one which would take bhp to 102 (more respectable) is it worth it dose anyone have any experience of these? Cheers bob

I would say you need to get a new battery or be sure the one you have is good.

ie Taking a full charge and holding it.

(a £20 battery from the scrappy will do if better than yours, or trickle charge the one you have.)

Short runs are taking the battery charge down starting and Lights, Heater etc on are not allowing it to recharge fully before stopping.

With a good set of jump leads fit to another vehicle & let settle for a few minutes then see how strongly it turns over.

(or just get a proper drop test done on the battery)

Does it start from a jump? If so it's the probably the battery. If not then start checking earths/cables.

As for the tuning box it's a lie and one so outlandish it's not even funny. The SDI is not a TDI (it has no turbo) and are 64bhp stock, to get to 104 you are adding 38bhp, that's 59%. Your average PD100 will gain 40ish bhp with a stage 1 map. A map on an SDI is like a map on a NA petrol.

No wont really start from a jump a mechanic said there is an earth about the gearbox that is quite prown to corosion due to where it is situated but i cant seem to find it.??????

The earth wire goes from the back battery terminal to the earthing point on the front of the passenger side front suspension turret, the wire is only about 9" long.

Cheers put it into the garage and he said thst the ends of some of the earth wires were badly corroded and is hopfull that this will sort the problem
