Service advice

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new here and hoping I can get a little advice on filtters and oil as our 1.4 Diesel Fabia is now due its first service in our ownership. I look after my own motors (Land Rover's) and am more than capable of oil and filter changes. I'm just wondering what are the recomended lubricants (5W40 PD has been mentioned) and filter numbers? and where are the cheepest places to get them from?

Also are there any rinkles, special tools or tricks of the trade I might need to know about before I get the crawl board and spanners out?

Many thanks in advance,

GB75.

I always get a genuine VW filter from my local TPS. That's short for Trade Parts Specialists, and they have every part imaginable for any VAG car, at good prices too, all genuine. The filter will come with a new O-ring as well. Just tell them you want a new sump-plug washer with it.

For oil, click here: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/

I think you can enter your registration number and it tells you what kind of oil your car takes. They have very good prices. I personally only use Castrol. I have done in all my cars, well happy with this brand.

Regarding the tools, the sump-plug needs an Allen key, but I can't remember the size. To take the filter out you will need a big hex socket, I think 36mm. I remember I didn't have one of those and had to get one from halfords. A tenner it was, but oh well...

Now, mine is a petrol, but I'm assuming it'll be the same for diesels too.
