Pattern door locking mech is OK

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am slowly working my way through common MK4 Golf/VW faults :giggle::

- brake switch failing

- water temp sensor giving strange readings

- coolant low warning light = corroded probes in bottle

- water leaks

- door lock problems

Anyway the current one I have just been looking at is door locking mech. Around last Sept the drivers door lock started playing up with the remote central locking. Around Christmas time it fully gave up the ghost!

Instead of paying £30-£35 for scrappy one, for £40 I bought a brand new pattern one off ebay. I have just been outside fitting it and it seems to work fine.

MANY THANKS TO FORUM MEMBERS WHO WROTE UP GUIDES FOR CHANGING THE MECH

Excellent news this mate. Can you post a link to the one you bought as mine is shot too.

Make sure you order the correct side and front or rear!

My drivers door is playing up, too, and I've thought about trying to solder it or just get a microswitch.

However, maybe what you did is the easiest and best solution.

For £40 mate its got to be worth a look I reckon

cheers for that link mate, i am watching a few pattern parts on ebay atm as both my front doors need doing.

My drivers door stopped opening/locking on weekend :/ silly question does this door mech have the micro switch built in ?

As above. Anyone know?

Yes it does. Four of the b*ggers I believe from reading the Door Latch Guide on the main Octavia 1 forum page, look at the top.

I take it 'right' means drivers side, and 'left' is passenger?

Correcto.

Excellent. Bought.

Is it worth keeping the old one? Are the microswitches interchangeable with the mechanism in the other doors?

You could keep it. I imagine some of the microswitches are interchangable. Three are labelled '5A 09' and one is '11 5A'. They are handed so I guess a left hand door will have three '11 5A' and one '5A 09' switches.

My Octy is near end of MK1 (2005) and I see the circuit board has a varnish over the other side to I guess stop the cracked solder problem that is a common fault.

Ha ha, your like me... its not working so lets take it apart and see if i can find out how it works.... not like i can brake it further.

Anyone got the how to link chaps?

The rear pass door on mine is gone! Such a pain to lock it manually everytime i leave!! Feel like im back in 1990!

If you have had door trim off before it is an ok job. I initially had difficulty removing electric window/door locking trim.

As for Guide it is on the main Octavia 1 forum page:

- Skoda Octavia I

- Octavia 1 - Replacing Door Latch Microswitch

Bowers1 wrote a really good guide.

Oh, make sure you have the correct tool bit to undo the door lock mech. It is the multi star bolts you see if you open your door and look at the edge. Most other tools needed are pretty normal ones. This one does not come in 'normal' tool kits.

Just been in contact with the supplier of these parts as i need to do both front doors, Asked the cheeky question if they could do a deal on a pair but they cannot move on the price.

The communication with them was fantastic! speedy responce and they have even informed me via message that the part will be dispatched same day.

they confirmed this unit is With Central locking so will work with the Vrs.

Should turn up this week, and fingers crossed it does not rain i can get my completely faulty one sorted this weekend. order the tempremental one next month.

Higgy,

Another problem they have is the Climate control flaps, My V70 has died and need to do this but its a 50% of the dash out job so saving this one for when the weather is nicer :)

Now that is a ballache, I unplugged mine and left it on freshair all the time.

That took long enough to do !! and I ripped the crap out of my hands doing it.

I wish it was that one, the V70 is the central flap which conrolls between the vents and the screen.

It is behind the Climate control buttons and screen, behind the center of the dash, aparently its tight to get out even with the center console out

The one you are thinking of is the recurc flap, thats the one that normally fails. (V71)

Whoops your right !!

My bad ....

I don't envy you having to attack that job !!

Ha ha  . Looks like I got that one too. Fault scans in the past have brought up some climate control flap, can't remember which one but I have never noticed anything lacking in the flap department :giggle: Certainly won't bother dropping the dash out for it.

I has hoping that by buying a 2005 model they would have ironed out all the issues over the past 6ish years of manufacture. Maybe they did on the Audi/VW but Skoda got the old part revisions. What is the brake swtich, on revision E now
