Oil problem with a difference

Featured Replies

The vRS has done 3500 miles so should be run in now and I decided to do a one off oil and filter change.

No problems doing the job,but when I came to refill the oil I put in 3.5 litres and it was still at the bottom of the hatched area of the stick. So in went another half litre.

Went for a run and got the oil up to a reasonable temperature ,came back left it 5 mins and checked again.

Level was at top of hatched area, perhaps slightly above but still below orange plastic blob...so I would say correct.

So..have they increased the oil capacity of the CTHE engine to 4 litres?

Would this be the oil filter swallowing the extra so would be the same as the previous engine ?

Perhaps...not sure whether the 3.6 litre stated capacity was with or without filter.

So it could be that where the discrepancy could be ?

George will be along soon...

It's just that I recall he goes on about measuring 3.6 litres precisely to get the right level.

Actually i have put in 3.6 after an oil change then a ticky more so actually 3.7 and that is just above the cross hatched area. when hot.

On the top Orange blob when cold.

The 3.6 capacity given for the Original vRS is as the engine is, filter and all.

Oil capacity required in the engine.

After an Oil and filter change, there can be a wee ticky left in the engine before refilling.

I would just check where it is cold tomorrow, then once up to 80oC.

I know different engine and sump shape on smaller diesels and petrols that are 3.9 litres but they have the same dipstick as a vRS that holds 3.6 litres.

No idea about the newest engine and any Oil Capacity change, i would not have expected this and the 2012-13 cars Owners Manual or the Dealer fitting a replacement engine should tell.

See how the level is tomorrow.

these engine take at least 4.0 ltrs

Can you flesh that out a little.

Is that official from VAG/SKODA on some tech notice, are you a Skoda Technician?

Are you saying that it is OK to pour 4 litres into a 1.4 TSi Twin Charger as fitted to mk2 vRS.

No problems to put in that much oil.

Obviously they take more oil than the official capacity, (Any engine can be overfilled, just keep adding, you might not want to tho)

are you saying that that is perfectly acceptable, put in 4 litres of oil,

then thrash that engine, no pressure problems or anything?
