Scout PD 140 odd noise

Featured Replies

Hard to describe

Its a slight hissing/ whooshing/sucking noise as you apply the throttle at low revs but clears as the revs build & load is applied to the engine, only for a few seconds & in each gear as you change up, really fait, I almost thought I was imagining it but it will do it when you blip the throttle with the car stationary, Im guessing its something on the induction side as an exhaust blow would build as the revs build.

Feel a trip to the dealers coming on but just wondered if it was anything obvious, Cars a Facelift 10 plate & done just over 81000 miles

81,000 miles?

Turbo?

Induction leak that you hear before the turbo spools up maybe? I think the tract between turbo and inlet manifold will have -ve pressure as you open the throttle but before the turbo pressurises the system, sealing the leak. Just thinking out loud/on paper really...

Thanks so far, car runs really well so I doubt its Turbo, Ive killed a few of those in the past & they always display odd signs when driving before the terminal illness developes

Agreed I think its def somewhere on the induction side

Update

The dealer has diagnosed a very small leak somewhere in the area of the Turbo but strugling to see it because of the 4x4 running gear so I have agreed to run it on to see if will get worse & make it more obvious before they strip it out, there is very small drop in performance but only very small so not really causing any driving issues & mpg is unafected. Time to give it full beams for a few days & see what lets go

The rubber ring seals that run from the intercooler to the intake before the EGR system (Big Eff off rubber pipe) have a habbit of leaking slightly IME.

They're dirt cheap too.

Even cheaper with a warranty
