Dead Fabia any takers

Featured Replies

Last week the oil light started flashing and beeping and the engine started to knock, I drove about 1/2 a mile so I could pull over safely and topped up the oil then carried on to where I was going which was less then 1/2 a mile away. About an hour later when I left it started to flash and beep and knock really badly and I have driven all of 100 yards, so I pulled over into a bus stop and called the AA.

So now the car has been towed back to my house by the AA, could be oil pump if the oil pressure dropped or knackered engine at worst, the AA guy said either way I dont have the money to fix it so or have anyone that can really tell me what the score is cheaply, local garage want a arm and a leg just to look so I looking to sell for spares or repair

FABIA HATCHBACK 1.4 16V Elegance 5dr [AC] 2007, Black, Transmission: Manual, Engine Size:1400cc

Wow - I Would pay someone to look at this before you Sell.. You might be letting go a good car!

If it ran put of oil then the knocking could be big ends or little ends (bearings at ends of con-rods). These are relatively cheap although there is a bit of work in getting to them. Suggest asking about as difference between value of car as is and repaired could be many times the cost of repair.

Best of luck anyway.

So is this one of the last mark 1 fabias with the 1.4 16v, or any early mark 2?

If its a 2007, it is surely worth looking at spare engines to replace like for like.

if the big ends have gone then the crank might need re-grinding, it fairly easy to check, take the sump off then take the bottom of the conrods off revealing the big ends and the crank, simples :)

Not being sexist but I would be surprised if Nikki knew what you guys were on about. Maybe someone in Oxford could have a look? :) I would if I were anywhere near.

I had a vague idea, and found someone to check it over to find out the engine is shot to bits. So do i go down the road of getting another engine for it or scrapping it, any one best/cheapish place to get a BBZ engine from please let me know

Look for same model on Ebay "breaking" adverts. Might be one within a short drive of yours. If it was a 2001 car, I would say its probably not worth repairing, but a 2007 should be really.

There are a number of companies with sites on the web which trace parts by being in contact with breakers around the country. You shouldn't have any problem, but first ask a local independent garage how much they would charge to fit the replacement. Best of luck; fingers crossed for you.

Yes, it's gotta be worth fixing.

A 2007 1.4 Elegance has still got to be worth £4000 if you sold it privately.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm going to my local garage owned by a friend of mine that I've known since school.

My Hyundai Santa Fe is due for it's big service - Cam Belt / Alternator Belt / Plugs (titanium coated) / leads, basically everything lol.

I will admit it's not a posh garage by any means, but as far as machanics he know's his stuff.

As he also does recovery, do you want me to enquire about a rough quote for you on recovering your car from Oxford to South Wales and replacing the BBZ engine - that way you'll have a benchmark figure.

Years ago I had a cambelt fail on a Citroen C8 - 2.0HDi. Was seeing silly quotes as high as £6,000 to fix it. In the end a garage in Edinburgh specialised in it - collected the car from South Wales, removed injectors, replaced the parts of the engine that were damaged / broken, then got the car up and running again. They didn't include driving the car back from Edinburgh as this served as your test drive and to ensure the car was running fine. All in for £1400.

I know my mate is well practiced in fitting engines - helped me put 3 engines into my rally car.

This is no way a sales plug, but I know when the C8 went wrong I was getting more and more worried as silly prices kept coming in. At least this will give you an idea of price.
