Both arent working, he has changed the temp selector switch and he is now lost. As am I with mine grrrr

Please help.

Many Fanks

Still trying to wire mine in check all ur wiring alas they have 3 relays also check them and there's a fuse that runs to the live to control them check that to?!

Any ideas on location for the relays??

And locations of everything else.

I got to some how pass this info on haha

Thanks

Ok in simpler terms.

Where are the relays located, are they behind the fuse panel and which relay is it as I would imagine there is more than one????

PW

Think there are some relays under the seats themselves.

I had a quick look with my mate this morning, all we can see is the plug connections at the front near the slide handle. Unless I am blind and they are located else where??

Morning All,

Right after much hunting about, The selector switch on the dash is working fine, so the next port of call is the Relay which I managed to find my self, in the event anybody else comes across this, the part number is 1U0 919 533, and it is the relay labelled 455. I still need to remove this and change it over, slight problem, its £48 from Skoda and 2 months lead time. At least where getting somewhere. :D

What are the numbers on the relay itself? Probably not to difficult to find an alternative.

455.

If you google 1U0919533 you will see what it looks like :D.

Friend went to VW today to try and cross ref the part but they couldn't so any suggestions???????

Okay, that is actually two relays in one package. Have you actually tested the relays for operation/tested the feed to the relays?

Checking the feeds (switched and permanent) directly to the relays would be my first port of call.

Certainly wouldn't want to spend £48 and two months waiting only to find out that's not the issue.

I have not tested but I did order the one off eBay. I took the relay out last night, it looked fine, I am not sure if the relay is supposed to click on or off when you switch the seat heating on but it was not making any noise at all. Also I could smell WD40 on the unit and it was certainly contaminated in places with the stuff. Above the relay connector there is a 15amp fuse, any ideas if that is related?>??

Have you seen how tight it is in there?

Feeds, Switched & Permanent ?

Pardon my ignorance, never was good at elecs

RIght, I have no idea how these things are wired without looking at a schematic, since mine is a basic vRS, but it could be fused in any number of places since heated seats are a potential fire risk.

The relay is just a remote switch. One that can often handle higher currents than your average switch. There should be a switched 12V supply to throw the coil of the relay, fed from the seat switches - possibly even with a fuse in between. I'm just curious since neither seat seems to be working, and the relay isn't making any noise at all. To me, I would be suspecting that there isn't a 12V switched feed at this stage. You need to find a handy mate with a multimeter.

If the relay isn't triggering, then either it's FUBAR (if this happens the solonoid body usually looks burnt) or it isn't getting current from the switched live.

But since the relay is actually two relays in one package, it kinda points more suspicion towards the switched live feed. Or an earth.

Ok, so on the presumption that you mean that it's 2 relays, 1 for each seat, I'd start to think of either its earth, or the feed to the control switches.

The control on the dash is illuminated so power is being fed there.

If I am right that the relay should make some sort of click and it isnt then the next port of call is to change it. However there are no scorch marks to be seen.

If the Fuses in the fuse box are fine & the relay isnt at fault then I will certainly check the odd looking fuse above the relay. Question is, is it possible to remove the panel around that area to see the relay and fuse board head-on??

Cheeaars :D

You still need to check that power is getting to the relays. Otherwise you're just p!$$!ng in the wind.

Right.................................. Multimeter :D the hunt continues

Ok so I swapped the relay anyway and the darn seats still arent heating.

I still need a multimeter on it. Will a volt stick do the same job??? or do I need to know the values??

Thanks for the help guys

Depends what type of volt stick you've got. Most will be high voltage AC, rather than low voltage DC. Ideally, what you really need is a test light. Even if you have a voltage present, it could be a rogue voltage - ie one that will not deliver a current draw eg. bad earth. You can often see 12V but the voltage drops dramatically when a load is applied.

I think the seats have a resistor in them under the cloth if they get hot or on for 2 long to stop them burning the elements out but don't hold me to that

More likely to be a bi-metal strip. Could well have gone faulty. But again, unlikely, considering the issue is in both seats.

Could be a break in the element. Had this on my Corrado seats in the past. Had to dismantle the whole seat and solder the element back together. Did the trick, but very time consuming and fiddly.
