Turbo siren sound,normal on Vrs?

Featured Replies

Hi again.

This post,as the title suggests, refers to a sort of police siren sound as the turbo spins up,it is not really loud, but if you listen it is noticable. Is this normal on the Vrs diesel??

It may not be the turbo, but it does seem to occur as it spins up,afterwards it has the normal turbo "whistle".

It occurs around 1500-2000 revs.

Thanks again folks..............

yes i have this as well only notice when radio is off

When mine did exactly the same noise, it resulted in a new turbo under warranty...

My 2.0 TDi Elegance has turbo whine/police siren. Was there at purchase at 106k miles, still there at 125k miles - no new turbo yet (touch wood!). Was a bit annoying at first, but I soon got used to it. Seems to be louder when the engine is cold. I was told by a local mechanic that it is a "feature" of VW engines, and not necessarily anything to worry about.

Hi.

Again, thanks for the responses, bit of a mixed bag this one,but it does seem to be a common occurence.

The cars going back to Skoda for the warranty people to assess so i`ll see how that works out.

Thanks again for the responses.

Usually the first sign of your turbo going bang I believe.

I had a brand new turbo fitted to my vRS last year. It whistled off the forecourt!

Mine has whistled since new. After 5 years and 76,000 miles I've just had the original turbo refurbished. The whine is still there - No difference at all.
