no lights on dash - car starts then immediately shuts down

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what the issue might be with my dad's superb and any potential solutions. The first problem is that when you turn the ignition on no lights come on on the dash. The second problem is that the car will start first time but then shuts down straight away.

Things like the electric seats, the radio, the headlights all work fine. When you put the headlights on the dash back-light comes on and the light indicating full beam/dipped works. The dash indicator for doors open also works fine.

So, that's the issue(s) and any relevant info I can think of. If there's any other info that would help with a diagnosis let me know.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Russ

Would imagine hooking up to VCDS might reveal whatever is causing the electrical issue. Is a key symbol coming on the dash when it stops after being started?

Hi,

Nope, no lights at all on the dash before or after starting. I take it VCDS is the VAG equivalent of an OBD port, and wouldn't take a standard OBD reader? Which would be typical seeing as I have an OBD reader! :)

Doh! Turns out a fuse had worked loose. The way it was starting fine but stopping immediately was making us think it was something more serious and we neglected to check the basics!

At least it is fixed.

Thanks for posting what the problem was. It could well help someone else in the future. :)

And stay around now that you have broken the ice by posting.
