Insurance costs Superb vs Yeti - surprising!

Featured Replies

Y'know, it's fascinating! All the stuff that accumulates when you change cars, or rather, the model.

This Superb has a lovely ride, is getting me an additional five miles to every gallon, has driven me nuts understanding the scatnav and blootoof system with my iPhone, given me hours of endless fun adjusting the seat for first half of a journey and the on another button, the second half of a journey, finding the source of the mouse that squeaks when I set off, stubbing my heels on the black thing beneath the driver's seat when in cruise comfort (and seat position three), boiling the ice on the windscreen, flapping my mirrors, accelerating past dozy Sunday yokels, clamping odds'n'ends in the boot with the boot clamping clamps, learning that I live 1200 feet up in the ozone layer, and watching the needles do that funny full tilt swish thing when I switch on.

And now it needs insuring.

I sat at the iMac, as you do, for the best part of a day, drinking oodles of coffee, getting rid of oodles of coffee, visiting web pages with daft furry animals on them, and tinkling toys in order to find out what I need to beat my broker up with.

Best is £178 complete with all I need from YourCover from Allianz. Most were around £210 -£220.

But the BIG SURPRISE (capitals for Llani-G and Yeti-mannie!!! LOL) was that this, for the Superb with the same perky peachy 170 engine was £100 or more LESS than the Yeti.

I don't understand, and I would be interested, of course, in other Yeti and 'Berb prices... ... ... ...

Maybe it's because people move to the 'berb side only after they've lost their yoofful exhooberance

I did that, gave me a terrible rash (although I think it's called 'Veet' now?)

My insurance went down thump when I changed from my 110 Yeti to a 140 superb......don't understand why.....but it's fine with me

Innit though.

I hope this wasn't whilst still sat at the iMac!! :giggle:

Perhaps the "burb is cheaper because it is considered to be an "old frats" car? :giggle: :giggle:

(Please note to anyone who complains, I draw attention things in bold and red!!)

You, Sir, also use CRAPITOLS, when so moved!!

And, Scrotum'n'Soda, my "veet" we're warm n comfy in my carpet slippers as I sat sitting puffing on my pipe in between (llllllaniG) visits after which I was relieved........

Erm.......... not difficult this one George. Insurance goes on how "stealable" something is.... What would your average thief want to steal these days? A car in the only segment that is growing - i.e. a softroader or would said yob rather steal a hearse*? Erm.... I think the yobs will take the Yeti any day over a hearse*. There's your £100 difference just there. Sorry.

(* you can take the word "hearse" out and replace with "taxi" if you like :giggle: ) - Yes, Graham, I'm in THE Bob corner already.

I LOVE the Superb, but alas it is either of those things to most people.

Depends what you want to do when you "steal" one I suppose?

Steal a Yeti for some h...........................ah was going to list some examples but thought I better stop myself for fear of offending

It's a fair point though 90000 - that is probably how the cars are viewed. Fine by me, guy round the corner will get his Yeti stolen then before mine! :bandit:

No need for the Corner with that comment, Johann!

Much to innocuous!

Phew. OK. BUT let's just hope Coops stays quiet. If he tells the Superb forum what I said about hearses and taxis all hell will brake loose. :giggle: And then I WILL be in the Superb Forum's Naughty corner.

If you like, I could join in as well, both as a Coops and an owner of a 'Berb!

OOH Coops, don't leave us in suspenders, will Johann go to Superb heaven :whew: or hell :( , the decision is yours! And we'll have a lorra lorra laughs!

Saw a fully Police liveried Superb Estate with 13 plates on it this morning - on the back of a 'single vehicle' transporter I hasten to add - with the last 3 digits of the plates covered in black tape. Reg CY13 something.

Smart yellow & blue chequerboard patches on the sides, Police front & rear (in English), but no blue lights on the roof. It looked very smart indeed.

Wonder who that was being delivered to?

'Twas heading into Manchester, but Manchester Police vehicles are usually locally registered. I think the C of CY would be somewhere in Wales wouldn't it? Behind it was a similarly liveried & registered Yeti (base colour appeared to be silver) on a second transporter. Again it looked very purposeful.

CY is indeed a Welsh reg.

There was a company in Gwent that used to prepare Emergency vehicles, fitting signs, lights, radios, etc. Delivered a few Vauxhalls to them when I worked for Vauxhall Demo Fleet.

Interestingly my insurance went down by £112 when I changed from Superb to Yeti..... Yeti is also much more economical than the Superb was. But then....

Superb was DSG and Yeti is manual.

Superb was 170CR Elegance trim and Yeti is 110CR SE trim

...so that probably explains it :-)

Still don't understand why my 'Berb is cheaper.

My two were identical twins (like Arnie and Danny!) in that both are 170 Elegance manuals with very few added options or fiddly bits, and the one is five grand more than the other. One is like a faithful old Labrador and the other a hyperactive Jack Russell Terrier.
