setting up coilovers

Featured Replies

I fitted my coilovers a couple of weeks ago and let them settle abit before I set about adjusting them. The only thing is to get all four corners the same height i've had to set one of the rears to the bottom of the adjuster where as the other side is about 20-25mm up. Also had to do the same to the front but not as much. Is this normal?

Don't have experience on an octy, but all other cars ive measured the spring platform on the coilovers and not gone by body height.

I would say something wasn't right if you have had to do that! But in not expert!

I would say defo not right. Maybe a thread different but not that much.

I always measure from platform down to last exposed thread . Take a few pics and post up. Something not right buddy.

Ok thanks guys, i'll try n get some pics up today.

25mm is a lot but it's not at all uncommon for cars to sit lower on the drivers side without anything being bent or borken

the drivers side isnt sitting too low though. Its not going low enough. The n/s/r arch is almost level with the tyre and its still got approx 25mm to go lower. The o/s is on the bottom threads and the arch gap is the same. Maybe the spring isnt sitting right?

Could it be something to do with the surface? Is it level?

No I did it all in the workshop at work. Surface is as level as can be. Might take the spring out and adjuster off to make sure its sitting right.

I say something missing on one side like a strut inner nut or bush not sitting right. Maybe the helper spring is catching one side. I would double check both sides again.

I've got this a little bit on mine. the near side rear is sitting lower and more proud than the right. Rumor has it, that if you undo a couple of bolts on the rear subframe, give it a whack it should sort it out. Least that is what my MK4 friends tell me.

There is a bit of side to side adjustment in the beam mounts but not much and it wouldn't effect the height.

Did you take out the old original spring mounts both sides. These are not needed with coilovers.

Oh Yeh they are difficult to see sometimes I had to use a screwdriver, at first I thought they were missing lol

yes i have seen them fused on before under a layer of grime!

what, the rubber bits that sit on top of the spring?

Sit in the bottom rear spring platforms, alloy round disk/washer thing

no as Raf states, these are the metal rings that std rear spring sit on / Like large washers. You need to take these out to fit the coilover platform properly. i know a few folks have missed these, sometimes they can rust bad and be hard to remove but you may have 1 left in and the other removed or corroded missing which is causing your difference.

Maybe this is what iv missed then. Pretty shore it is as I defo did not remove any of those. Thanks for your help again guys :-D
