Ecall - Cigarette Lighter

Featured Replies

Looks good, but as always, things like that have a monthly fee. :(

something similar is already built into some higher end marques, Lexus for one springs to mind IIRC. I don't think it's too far off that this tech will become standard and built in.

The Octavia III has this built in too, so not just high end marques.

Octy III is a top of the range A4 isn't it :D

But with that plugged in how do you light your cigs? Unless it does that too lol

Sent from my Galaxy S3, not a Crapple!

Wonder if it can be set off without actually crashing lol

you go to Halfrauds and buy a Ripspeed chrome plated USB dual charger lighter socket. USB 1.0 powered OEM uprated double socketed cigarette lighter adaptor. (actual spec. may vary)

Yes it can, see this

at time index 0.22. :)

Isn't it law for all new cars from next year?

I know some of the DashCams record a false "event" just by hitting a pothole. Given the roads in the UK (especially round Redhill) this thing would be going off evey 10 minutes!

And next- a link into a built in speed sensor ( sort of "John Spartan ,you have been fined *** for speed violations) . They said section 59 was to prevent idiots, but look at how it's really used .

It doesnt even need that. If it has GPS and a mobile phone connection, all it will need is an over the air firmware update (so it reports in every x seconds) and every new car can be tracked and fined in real time. For the safety of the children. What decent, law abiding person would ever oppose that?

I fully expect the purpose of these to change over time. If all the insurers don't force trackers in before then.

Alright for the States, but I would think it will have to be detuned for use over here. Apart from being set-off by everything from parking bumps to hump-back bridges, railway crossings and speed humos, wouldn't the embedded accelerometer be effected by the oreintation of the lighter socket ? - so you'd have to at least do some set-up so as to reflect the plane of use.

.....and reset it whenever you've plugged the phone in to be charged too.

4pots, some good brake pads and some serious deceleration should do it. ;)

the new 3 series i drove the other week had a feature in that if the car detected it was in a serious accident apparently it would automatically call the emergency services and transmit the cars position.
