Light in the door panel

Featured Replies

Hi everybody i d like to add a light behind the little red reflector of my driver and passenger door. Something that would be on when the doors are open.

Did any body try or did it?

What should the lamp be wired to? Will i have to make a hole for it or there is already one behind the reflector..

thanks for your help

thom

Which Fabia do you have? They should come as standard. But maybe not in Belgium.

They do depend on the spec and I seem to recall a couple of years ago they removed them from mid-spec cars in the UK.

Not sure but the dealers might have a kit you can use to retrofit them as the switch is already in the door for the courtesy light.

ive got reflectors and mine is a 2003 comfort.... would be interested to see how this turns out

Ok, well I didn't know, my 51 Comfort has them.

Could you not get a feed from the interior light to power them? Then obviously they would come on when the interior light comes on?

Ok' date=' well I didn't know, my 51 Comfort has them.

The classic never had them to my knowledge, the comfort lost them towards the end of 2002 and the Elegance still has them.

Not sure what the facelift and restructuring did to them though.

The courtesy light is the ceiling light.

So is there a hole behind the reflecor or will i have to make one to fit a courtesy light in the door?

thanks

This is one thing I noticed in detail differences between my car and a friends.

My 2003 Comfort TDI has reflectors in the doors

His 2000 Comfort 16v has little lights instead

IIRC, the red bit in the door is different, its not like mine with a bulb - but a different part. I'd also like to see how this pans out, it would be a neat little mod.

I was thinking about puttint a light just behing the reflector... is that how it seems to be for your friend?

So fare i m only planning on doing it.. it ll be for end of june because i m have a few finals to take before houraah. But if i ll ever do it i ll take pictures of the mod.

They're standard in the vRS - it'll be a lot simpler just to get the proper components - can't be that expensive...

i checked again and it seems to be a hole behind the reflector...

about the component you are right i ll see with my skoda dealer.. i m just worried about how the hell am i gonna take a wire from the courtesy light down to my door... don t know how to hide de wire in the ceiling...

It's possible the wire's already there - as part of the standard loom - though I can't check on mine of course since it's got the lights already. You might be able to pull back the wireway across the hinge and see what's there?

and what about from the courtesy light to the hinge :-)

is the "ceiling protection" stuck or by removing the handle it will fall?

thanks

Hi there. Our classic Fabia didn't have them, but our Elegance Octavia does.

I would suggest having a look at the Fabia parts list on www.jhmbuttco.com to see if there is something like a "door courtesy light assembly". When I took the front door trim panels off our Fabia to fit the central locking kit, it was clear that the erflector could just pop uot and be replaced by a light assembly. Regarding wiring, I would suspect that the wire would terminate in the block on the door side of the A-pillar.

what switch are you talking about?

I have looked (just from removing the reflector) and, to me, i don t have any wire or light pre_installed....

I know that this post is really old. But Thom, did you ever do this mod? For some reason my elegance didn't come with those lights (?), rather the reflector and I would also be interested in the mod.

I actually did the mod.

I'll be happy to help you.

What do you wanna know?

I have a 2001 Comfort and it has door lights. Correct me if Im wrong but are these also called "puddle lights"?

Looks good when its done and a good safety device too.

Thanks!! It was a fun mod to do.:)

Where did you end up taking power from? Is it actually there in the door or do you have to pull it down from somewhere else? Did you just put the light behind the red lense or get another part altogether?

Thanks,

NR

Hello GlacierNR I pulled a wire from the ceiling light. About the part I just ordered a 2 new ones. The 2 reflectors it came with the lights.

Hope it helps

Thanks Thom. I guess I will have to wait for warranty to expire or get the dealer to install it.
