I've just given my car the biggest clean since autumn, but **** me the amount of rust, you'd think it was a bloody metro! Infront of the rear wheels is rusty, the boot lid is rusty, there's rust on the rear near side corner, and rust developing on the edge of the bonnet.... Not to mention the state of the alloy wheels!

Anything I can do other than a full professional respray?!

How old is yours mate? Mine is a 2002 old girl and so far only rust I spotted was on the front wing in the bit hiding behind the headlight I spotted when changing the hid bulbs - by removing the headlights. Elsewhere no rust at all. Yours must be a dodgy batch.

It's a late 2002 model. Kind of annoying, I LOVE my Superb.

I suspect some panels and sub-panels which are exclusive to the Superb are not galvanised. All of these cars rust around the number plate lamps - the boot lid panel is specific to this car. The manner in which the rust spreads if left untreated strongly suggests that there is no zinc on this panel.

This suggests a direct contravention of the information given in the sales brochure - which I still have, stating that the Superb is fully galvanised.

To be fair, I think the brochure states fully galvanized bodyshell or similar, ie parts such as wings, bonnet, boot cover are not included in this description. Nevertheless, it is annoying and misleading, even more so when galvanic corossion on the 2.5 is taken into account.

I bought 2 cans of zinc primer (95%+, exhaust grade, to 500degC) a few years back, covered up the exhaust and anything wanting to rust on the engine and underbody fixings/bolts, and since then rust stopped being much of a problem. So far, it seems to work well, but my Superb is 2006. Rear tailgate was replaced in 2009, because it got smashed, so hopefully there are a few years left before it shows rust.

Mine is a 2002 and no rust on tailgate. I think production quality might have varied back then. My rear wing has had a stone chip for two years down to metal and no rust has emerged. It's silver underneath looks like zinc so can only assume that that panel at least is galvanised. But my front wings are rusty behind the headlight that will need addressing soon.
