I'm desperate for more power, but I know I definitely won't be able to get an exhaust till September time, I reckon I will probably go for stage 1 with my filter, TIP, new DV and POSSIBLY downpipe. Then when I am able to buy the exhaust and FMI I will take another trek for a stage 2. Don't want the car struggling to cool properly cos I've had waaaay to many problems with a couple of Alfa 156s I've had!

.....cooling system...... Bottom end....... Cylinder misfires..... Oil leaks..... Had 'em all but strangely no electrical faults! Lovely cars when they work but I couldn't own one again- the mrs would kill me!

Rest of the system isn't too bad I don't think, downpipe is the main thing..

To the OP, unless you're prepared to spend the same amount of money you spent to buy the car in the first place, and possibly more, forget the stage 2 route.

You need to replace a whole load of parts to cope with the extra power and torque, never mind reach the claimed figures in the first place, and you'll be opening up a can of very expensive worms.

Remember that your insurance will kick in to ridiculous levels as well with all the mods.

In summary, unless you're rich, stick with Stage 1, RARB, panel filter, and possibly some new suspension later. Just these can transform the vRS into a more-than-capable hot hatch

I admit there are some lovely Mark I cars on here, tuned and modded to within an inch of their lives, but it ain't for the faint-hearted, or those with no disposable income.

I sort of agree with the above comments, my main reason for going stage 2 was already having an FMIC fitted to the car when I bought it. The Downpipe was £110 from eBay (bargain) so I was pretty much set.

You can do it on a budget if your prepared to buy cheaper hardware, or hang on and wait for bargains to pop up...

Phil, I reckon after seeing the pics of your down pipe and the difference it makes I will definitely be investing in one.

And thanks jigger72, great post! I am not after massive power, just more than standard so i can have a nice play every now and again and I must admit, I haven't even considered anti roll bars- bush kits etc yet. Stage one seems to be the right path for me as it has to be usable by both me and the other half to ferry two small kids about.

Definitely don't want to be causing too much stress on other components because I guess that's where things can get silly!

Really appreciate all the posts from everyone as it has helped me considerably, cheers!

Buy 2nd hand parts it's much cheaper ;)

If you look hard enough you can go from stock to stage 2 for under £1000 inc the £290 for an R-tech custom remap.

Another question then- aside from eBay, what other places do others use for parts and can I just get golf/tt engine parts too?

You will be happy with 210bhp

It looks like your only gaining 30bhp but you arent

Its the power delivery

As stock my octavia developed 125bhp at 4k rpm

At 210bhp my octavia developed 195bhp at 4k rpm

So thats a 70bhp increase at 4k rpm!

Is an uprated clutch needed for Stage 2?

I haven't got one currently. If it goes ill replace probably with G60/VR6 setup.

+1

At stage 1 i hammered my car and the clutch was perfect (247lb/ft of torque)

For parts try on here, and yes, Golf/TT/Leon parts fit, depending on engine

Jump in your car, and nip up the road to hinckley.

The drive back will be more fun lol :D

5 hours roundtrip! how long did you spend on remap and RR?

So that must be 3.5 hours there and 1.5 to get back then lol :D

My car was on the dyno for about 3 hours, but that was because of issue's with it.

lol. i like your thinking!

Mine was on for around 2.5-3hrs as well...
