Stage 2...First impressions

Featured Replies

Ok so today I had my new Pipeworx 3" downpipe and sports cat fitted and then applied the Bluefin Stage 2 software.

My first impression was...that the exhaust note on idle sounds much more bassy and throbbing. In fact sat in the car on idle it sounds more like I'm sat in a Scooby or Evo!

Second impression was...holy crap thats fast! I've been running stage 1 on it since last summer and I was definitely getting very used to it in that although it was still pretty quick it felt "normal". With the Stage 2, DP and sports cat I took it onto the nearby NSL dual carriageway and booted it and it felt much much quicker and like it just wanted to keep on pulling like a train.

Sadly the weather is absolutely awful here today so hopefully I shall get out tomorrow and give it a proper run. However my vRS has just put a big grin back on my face :)

New clutch time soon? Or are they OK stage 2?

exactly what i was going to say.. bye bye clutch

Nope standard OEM box and paper filter still. I'm not yet convinced that a CAI really helps much...any thoughts?

A CAI should see another 12bhp / 10lbft

Standard filter will flow enough air easily for a K03 whatever stage its at.

For me it was bye bye clutch at stage 1 lol

Now i have everything in place for a K04 conversion later in the year.

I hav bought this http://www.neuspeed.com/95/11/0/1300/651097-neuspeed-p-flo-air-intake-kit.html

I cant see how some £400+ CAI cant be any better or worse than basically a pipe with a filter on the end.

Good choice- on a RR my car showed 9 bhp and 27 ft/lb torque increase with a neuspeed p-flo.

i was at AKS the other day and Alex showed me the intake he's got on his car, looks the dogs and knowing Alex it'll be spot on performance wise.

I'm running a p flow very good for the price :)

How is that any better than any others though??

I bet if you get a length of pipe and bent to shape with a filter on the end if would just be the same minus the silly £400+ price tag.

Good to hear still a tad overpriced IMO but over half the price of others.

I ran an Evoms intake for a long time and have just changed to an autotech one (half the price) and apart for a little less of the hyena noise at low boost I can't tell the difference.

One thing that some of the other intakes have is the Venturi effect of a larger pipe going down to the std width causing better flow apparently.

27lb/ft or 27nm? That's amazing if its lb/ft ;)

It gained 27 ft/lb at approximately 4100 rpm. This is without a heatshield around the filter either. Was quite happy.

There is no real way of knowing how accurate the RR is- however, the bum dyno has noticed an increase, although slight, for the better. :)

The thing is its not just a piece of pipe, the good intakes are tested to make sure they perform well on the tfsi. I've read a few threads on how placement of the MAF in the tube and different sized pipe can throw off fuel trims making the car run rich or lean.

On BSH first attempt at the Trueseal the MAF wasn't directly in the airstream, this had a detrimental effect.

Ed30 golfs make 290 - 310bhp on standard filters. Your ko3 won't make 300bhp, with or without an intake.

Havent RR'd it yet but expecting somewhere around 260-265bhp and 270ft-lbs torque. And I believe it is the IHI turbo not the K03 and so 300bhp is more of a possibility. Although in reality *if* I go any further i'd be putting in a K04 + S3 intercooler :)

you might not make 300bhp on the TSI, but you can get pretty damn close, closer than on the TFSI K03 anyway

With regards CAI's, I'm running a custom made ITG maxogen intake. The filter itself is housed in a carbon fibre surround which has a cold feed running from down at the front of the bumper. Very subtle noise difference and definitely an improvement over standard. The best part was that it was free!!
