Fabia vrs 2004 - 2005

Featured Replies

Hi all, about to buy myself a new car and was firstly looking at the zetec s tdci mk6. However many people have told me to go with the fabia vrs.

Just wondering if any of you guys can shed some light on true running costs.

Basically I do a 40mile round trio each day to work.

I want good mpg when I drive sensibly And I also want a blast on the weekends or when I'm feeling it.

What type of mpg do you get when driving sensibly? driving it quick around town up and down the revs? Also when doing a tonne on the m4?

Does the remap genuinely save fuel as they suggest?

I only have a budget of max £4500 and judging by what's available that's at around. 70k miles. Is there anything to look out for when going to buy one with this mileage?

All help appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Check out the Fabia mk1 area, lots of good info.

Can't offer any real advice myself as running a mk2 but sure someone will be along soon to offer advice.

Drive steady on a decent up and down hill real world run and I average 60mpg.

Have a blast and I average around 40mpg.

The overall mpg saved in the memory is currently 52mpg (around 3000 miles since i last erased the memory)

I am confident that there is no other car out there which comes close for the money (MPG vs Performance)

Buy one, you will not regret it.

Yes that's what I'm after, mpg and performance.

Have you done a remap? Basically I want this car to last a long time, and I don't want to do a remap just to make it go quicker if it'll will just kill the car.

Il try and find the mk1 fabia section now, thank you :)

I get on average high 40's over a full tank. 45 litres tank gets me 470 miles.

If I want to I can get into the 60's going to work, if I really try into the low 70's but that's really trying with not much stop start just motorway, a and B roads.

Remap won't alter mpg much. Increased low down torque can help but go for too much and the clutch starts slipping when "used"

That's what I'm after. Driving to work at 8:30 in the morning il happily do 60 - 70moh in the slow lane just to save fuel, I do it now already knowing its fuel saved for the weekend to go places or to buy a pint or two.

Just out of interest what is the best place to get one remapped? Any particular tuning company? I'm not really up to date with tuning stuff but isit possible to get one remapped sort of half way just to increase the mpg a little without loosing any bhp and without affecting the engine, sort if a remap to 150bhp?

And out of interest how much does a clutch cost for these? Isit the dual mass type clutch? Just had to replace one on my land rover and the bill was roughly £600!

Remap will see about 170bhp and 280lb/ft, more is possible but not advised on

standard turbo etc. Yes it is a dual mass flywheel/clutch setup and an aggressive

map coupled with incorrect driving technique will quickly ruin the stock setup.

You'd be looking at £600 plus to replace the setup on the Fabia as well inclusive

of fitting.

I'd recommend Shark or Unit 18 as good places to start making enquiries about mapping.

Shark maps are in particular noted for their smooth power delivery.

They are also switchable via the STS box system.

With a unit 18 map mine would return nearly 50mpg on my short trip to work (15 min/10miles) but even when gunning it it'll still clear nearly 40.

Providing you get a decent map and drive properly you'll have no issues breaking stuff.
