Newbie looking to buy a vrs

Featured Replies

Hi all, been looking for a new car for the last 3 months now. I want a sporty diesel to give me good mpg and performance when I want it.

I do a 40 miles round trip each day to work and general motoring on the weekend. The trip to work is typically valley town driving, or through the mountain lane depends where I go, and then onto the dual carriageway and M4

My first choice, and very nearly bought, was the fiesta zetec s tdci mk6. But then the fabia vrs got recommended and iv only read good things about them.

So basically I just want to know the true running costs for

Sensible driving around town, dual carriageway, m4.

Fast driving, around town up and down the revs, and more than likely a tonne on the m4 when iv had a bad day in work

does the remap give better mpg? Or is it a myth?

And general maintain e costs of the car, tyres etc etc

How many miles have you all got out of the cars before major problems occurred and before they died? With and without the remap because I plan to keep this car for a long time, until it hits the scrapyard!

I'm not into modifying really, the remap mostly appeals to me for the mpg and not the expected 170bhp.

And as for exterior styling its not for me either.

Thanks in advance :)

The 1.9PD is a taxi drivers favorite, that pretty much tells you everything you need to know. Costs will vary massively depending on the car. Some have origional clutches/turbo's/DMF's past 130k, some have seen two turbo's go in about half that. Have a look at the other buying advice (use the search box) in previous threads, a lot of the issues you need to look out for affect the whole range, not just the TDI's.

Timing belt is something I'd suggest you look at though, 60k/4 years and it's 2-400 depending in who you use and if you do the water pump at the same time.

You could get a remap with fuel economy in mind just speak to the tuners on this forum .
