Intercooler Mount (Snapped)

Featured Replies

Car was in at Skoda yesterday for the timing belt and when I went and collected it there was a side note on the paper work saying my INTER COOLER MOUNT SNAPPED so pipe is loose, but didnt say if it was fixable where it was or anything, just wondering if this is a common problem and if its repairable, I don't even know where to look,

And will the pipe being loose cause me any problems,

The intercooler itself is in the OSF wheel arch, behind the side grille (looks like a small radiator).

If the mounting is broken you'll get more vibration in the intercooler, which may eventually lead to the connection stubs breaking off and a total loss of boost pressure and filtered air to the engine.

so Deffo need to get this fixed, do you know if its a big job getting it done, normally VW leave a price to fix any faults they find but this time they haven't costed the job,

the main mount is a bracket, if you can get the mount out, someone should beable to spot weld it back on fo you easily, its only a small mount on a small intercooler so don't get fobbed off as it being complex. If you can't repair, i have a spare for sale.

The mount is at the bottom left of the car (looking at the car head on), behind the bumper/bumper grill and in front of the wheel arch. The bracket mounts to the chassis leg just above and to the side of this.

thx I have just called Skoda to see what they quote on fixing it, I was thinking it would need a replacement intercooler but doesnt sound as bad now

they wont fix it as such, they will just replace the part, they arent likely to weld it. Its easy enough to remove yourself, then take it to a small local garage to get them to weld it if they can.

Im not that mechanically minded, and with it snow on and off for so long I dont fancy taking the car apart in this weather, if the jobs not an immediate problem then maybe I can wait until the weather is better.. Would i need to remover the bumper and stuff to get at it ?

if the part is replaceable is it just a bolt on part ? as I used google to search for it, but all it came up with was front mount intercoolers,

yes its a bolt on part, 2 pipes in/out with jubilees, and the bracket that holds it on, there is also a plastic shrowd at the front that clips on. its easier to get to with the bumper off, but you can do it without, equally removing the arch liner, if you arent taking the bumper off helps!

You wouldn't happen to have a part number for it, I'm having a nightmare every time I search for anything to do with intercooler and mount brings up the front mount intercoolers,

If you use Chrome it will translate the page http://vin-online.ru...at=252&gr=14575

What year is your car ??

Which PN are you after, Inter cooler itself ?

I presume there is a mount that fixes the mount to the car, I havent got Chrome, will see if firefox can translate it

I've circled the mount points, I think it's just those, I don't think theres anything else on the other side.

IIRC the top two are on the plastic top of the IC.

thanks, I think I got confused, I was presuming there was a mount on my car that the intercooler mounted too, and that needed replacing,

can find plenty of intercoolers for my car, no wonder I couldnt find a mount lol...

when the snow stops I will take the inner arch off and have a look inside and see what I can see,

1 other question, what would VW of been doing near my intercooler when doing my timing and water pump,

It's right next to it technically, and IIRC they go in via the arch to put the bottom of the belt on the pulley

found a few after market intercoolers online, but they have different sensor sizes, is there anyway to know which size sensor mine is without removing it ?
