vrs clutch judder - new clutch?

Featured Replies

hi guys,

before I bought my VRS it had apparently had a new clutch fitted but someone? its on 86k miles and is stock.

Since I've had it, it judders when pulling away, sometimes it doesnt, most of the time is does, it can vary also how bad it is. does it hot and cold.

Are there any other things that could cause this? or have they just not fitted it correctly>

Mis-fitted clutch, FUBAR DMF, oil leak from engine or gearbox into clutch bellhousing.

Or an intermittent misfire.

could be a knackered dog bone mount

so all except dogbone mount would mean box off then to find out.

With regards the mount - is there any way i could test the theory?

Worn mount should give you an engine you can rock the top of back and forward by hand.

Misfire might leave fault codes in memory.

defo not misfire - no fault codes

no other vibration etc when driving - re DMF

Any noise at all?

Not seen an oil leak foul a clutch since classic minis without the gearbox casing being broken.

Could be slave cylinder leaking brake fluid onto it???

Did it have a single mass flywheel conversion or is it still running its duel mass flywheel???

Does it make a noise on start up or turn off???

Could be slave cylinder leaking brake fluid onto it???

Possible but it's still unlikely for it to get onto the clutch plate

all fluids seem level. no noise at all from it

dunno what flywheels in it. im assuming the original dmf

My VRS juddered on pull away and sort of 'chirped' on gear changes... that was a fubar'd DMF.

It would be odd for the dmf to be funked and not make any noise at all but they can lock solid which would cause it. My clutch juddered but the friction plate was literally coming apart and it rattled.

Could be a worn out friction plate but I'd want to rule out all the mounts and wishbone bushes etc before taking the gearbox off.
