I am needing to get some roofbars for my VRS hatchback

I'm just after a basic thule square bar type but I'm totally confused about how they all mount.

I'd like ones that clip on and off using the factory slots in the roof gutter, and don't want ones with door brackets and the like incase they mark the paint.

What type should I be looking for and even better does anyone have a recommendation or old set they don't want!

Loads on eBay. I've got Thule ones that clamp down on the roof cut outs with a claw type mechanism.

Hi anyone got a picture? I'm assuming I could buy nearly any type as the fitting kit would then adapt to my vehicle?

If you are going Thule, these are the kits you will need - square bar kit 760, Foot kit - rapid system 753, fitting kit - fixpoint XT 3003.

Try going to halfords get the part nos from the thule cataloge then search ebay, roof bars are universal it the lengths of the bars you have to be carful with there is differences between mk1 and mk2 octavias as i found out going from mk1 hatch to mk2 estate, then get the correct foot pack new this set is about £150 it might be more now i bought mine years ago.

Those numbers above are the thule numbers for a mk1 Octavia using square bars as I have on my VRS.

If you buy them as a kit in Halfords, current price is £143.97, I sourced all my kit as individual lots on ebay for £39 in total.

It can be done, you just have to be prepared to spend some time looking, as the thule numbers cross over with other car manufacturers, whose sellers are less likely to ask fortunes for them.
