Engine Management?

Hi Guys,

My Fabia 1.4 16valve 2000 X Reg, has developed a problem recently. It's as if the engine momentarily cuts out causing a major drop in revs and a noticable jolt as the car is moving. There are no warning lights shown on the display.

Is it the engine management? Dodgy ignition? Or what? Any Suggestions?

• The first time it happened was when accelerating from a junction, dropped from about 3000 to 900 rpm and back up to 3000 in a split second.
  
• The second time I was cruising up to a junction in 5th gear with my foot off the gas pedal, dropped from about 1500 to 900 rpm.
  
• The third, most recent occasion was while I was on the motorway, dropped from 4000 to 1000 rpm and back up to 4000 in about half a second.
  

All the above occasions occured in the past month and while the engine was warmed up.
