Dealers have told me not to retrofit a Maxidot into Facelift Octavia VRS

Featured Replies

Went to Azur Skoda in Chichester today to seek advice about retrofitting a Maxidot display into my 09 facelift Octavia VRS. They said not to do it as "it's not meant to be in that car", which i found rather odd.

They said that they had only changed one before and now weeks later they are still trying to rectify all the problems it has caused, but without success.

Can anybody confirm please if it can definitely be swapped, and what problems could be likely if it is?

P.s. They also quoted the new Maxidot at £513.01 + vat, and "around" 2 hours labour to fit it !!

go to your dealer with either a laptop

and play this to them

tell them they don't know much

Well all i can say is, there are plenty of people on hear who have done this upgrade and have no problems. me thinks the dealer has made a boo boo. or dont understand there own diagnostic computer system.

to be fair to the dealer this won't be on any training course their techs have been on and they won't have a book time or any previous experience of doing anything similar, so they're pretty much in the dark.

they are experts at what they do - unfortunately that's mostly straightforward service work.

lots have done this and other retro fits - you just need to find the right specialist, and you won't find that at a main dealer i'm afraid.

02p etc.

My dealer did mine.

I was expecting a similar response but, fair play to them, they were happy to give it a bash.

All was fine and the car has now done more miles with the maxi than it did with the old cluster. No issues at all.

Huges in Aylesbury (but far I expect!)

Yes the standard response is no, no , no. Because dealers are told (if they care to ask) that SkodaUK will not help out if anything subsequently goes wrong. Basically it's wait until out of warranty then do what you like.

Did dealer provide maxidot or did you source from the likes of Skodateile?

I'm now off to watch rugby on TV.

I got it from Skodateile. I think the dealer asked SUK and were told there was no reason it shouldn't work. I did say I would accept responsibility if it didn't work.
