Retrofit MDI?

Featured Replies

Pooh. I can find the lhd parts fine, but there's no trace of the kit for rhd.

Quick update on this, having collected the car today. MDI neatly fitted in the top-tray:

This looks a good spot for the MP3 player if you live in the arctic but be mindful leaving your phone or MP3 plugged into this sauna on a hot day. This top bin gets VERY hot and said device will overheat 10 to 1. That is why Merlinman's solution of having this cable terminate in the (air conditioned) glove box is the only way to go in my book - if you are retrofitting.

Just a thought.

Thanks Johann,

That's one of the reasons I want to get it as close to OEM as possible. It's very weird that RHD vehicles come out of the factory with the MDI in the centre console, but none of the on-line parts catalogues have fittings for RHD models listed.

I had the MDI in my VRS which was located in the glovebox, to be honest I found it bit of a pain to get my iphone in and out reaching over each time. The central location of the MDI port on the Yeti does appear to be more user friendly if unsightly if you're abit OCD about these things.

See #10 above - I never need to remove my 64gb memory stick except to add more music, takes up no space in the glove box, affords full control and is as discrete as MI6

Vag make a lead now that fits in the mdi and the other end in an iPhone 5.....

Link please, can't seem to find anywhere

Really? I don't see an MDI to lightning adapter on the UK or DE VW accessories sites (yet).

But you can get a 30pin > lightning adaptor?

Check Ebay or Amazon?

I'll post some pictures later, hopefully there's a part number on it....

Wow that looks bulky at the phone end, think I'll just keep my old one with lightning adaptor.

I suspect that is going to be the hottest selling VW accessory for quite a while. Though the €70 price tag smarts a bit.

Just noticed that the connector is proud of the base which is a big plus over Apple's own £25 30pin to lightning adapter. This will allow you to use a phone case while being connected. Thanks to iOS7 most other adapters no longer work as the phone interrogates the chipset in the connector and declares them as unsupported accessories.
