High octane fuel for 1.2TSI engines?

Featured Replies

I'm picking up a Rapid 1.2TSI (85) on Sunday but thought I'd ask this here as nobody else seems to have a Rapid yet...

I thought Skoda used to recommend higher octane fuel for the TSI engines but the Rapid brochure says 95 is recommended. Is it my imagination or has this changed and if so have Skoda changed the engine maps or just their advice?

It's the 1.4 TSI 180bhp they recommend the higher octane fuel, for the 1.2tsi I have noticed no difference at all to be honest when running higher octane fuel, except the extra cost.

I only use 95 octane petrol in my 1.2Tsi 105Hp Roomster since day one. Two and a half year later and 38.200Km driven, no problem occured and last week I covered 330 kilometres using 17.8 litres of petrol. My average speed was 87Km/h which means 120 Km/h at highway, 80 to 100 Km/h at country roads and 30 to 40 while crossing towns and villages.

only ever put super in the vRS, but our citygo says 95,(and has only ever been run on 95) but I'm going to try 97 next time we do a long run in it , just to see if there is any improvement over the last long run we did with 95 :)

I had a new Citigo as a courtesy car last week and it had the same petrol cap sticker as the vRS - Super unleaded 98 (min 95)...... Weird!

indeed, thats why we are going to try super on the next long run... I know from all the magazine/tv tests ect that extra performance is not really found in non turbo, or lowley tuned engines, but it says 98 in our fuel cap too, so gonna give it a go next time I go somewhere in it :)

edit: I cant tell the difference between the 60 ps and the 75 ps anyway, so I doubt I will feel poweeeerrrr, but maybe a bit more fuel economy to make up for the extra cost ?

Curious - Citigo got refilled for only the second time since we've had it and I just put 95 in it...could have treated it to some Momentum99 instead but as wifey never goes further than a couple of miles each time not much point..

I tried 98 in mine and it seems a little quicker but could be placebo effect
