Painting question

Featured Replies

This is for someone who has a good knowledge of professional car painting techniques.

Due to my carelessness I recently reversed the vRS gently into something and some minor scratches on the corner of the bumper were the sad result.

However, not serious to me because I've been doing amateur spray painting on cars for too many years now.

So after the damage has been filled, flatted and primed I will be applying candy white solvent base coat and finishing with lacquer.

I will be using single pack acrylic lacquer (U pol or HMG),so,at last here comes the question...must I lacquer the whole of the bumper or can I get away with just the corner and polishing in?

I want the repair to be undetectable,of course.

Sorry to bore those not into car painting.

No-one? Not a painter,George?

Not much i can tell you.

I would repair and prepare the damage, prime lightly, cut back the whole bumper and colour spray & lacquer as one.

Just to be sure to be sure of a good match over time.

If you can do just the end and match it fair enough.

No harm in doing a good de-wax of the area to repair (build up) and just blow it in,

if needs must and you are not happy with that, you can do the lot, nothing lost.

Watch out for any reaction.

Thanks,that's what I thought.

I can't see the lacquer that I use blending in with the factory 2 pack stuff,so I'll do the whole bumper.

I use Panel Wipe to clean up and extra fine Scotchbrite to etch the lot before lacquer.

Since it's non metallic candy white I can just blow in the colour, that worked perfectly with the Octy with Corrida red (another flat colour).

I'm pleased it's not metallic, never had any success with matching them in the past.
