Shudders while acceleration - DMF ?

Featured Replies

Its been there for some time now , car gives short but prominant shudders while accelerating .

Got the filters replaced

Transmission oil topped up

EGR and injectors cleaned

All 3 mounts changed but its still persistant .

Even at cold starts i can feel the same . It seems to be DMF now , but would like to have other opinions too .

Also read a few articles on DMF to SMF conversions , would it work on AT ?

It could be the DMF. Does it make a rattling noise when in P or N....especially when the engine is cold?

Unfortunately there is no SMF conversion for the DSG....you'll have to put another DMF on it, but I think they improved the design of the DMF, so shouldn't fail so quickly in future.

Another thing you should rule out before getting the DMF replaced is worn engine mounts......that could produce the symptoms you describe.

Looking at the list I think the engine mounts have already been replaced?

I'd have a tenner on the DMF.

Mine is worn and I too get a judder if I accelerate too hard in too higher gear / low RPM. But I have a manual so I can avoid these situations in the hope I can delay the inevitable for as long as possible.

I guess with a DSG you don't have that luxury?

I missed that.....forget my engine mount suggestion.

The DMF on my 2.0 PD DSG rattles badly in N or P when cold. It doesn't cause any judder at all at the moment, and I put this down to the DSG not permitting high gear low RPM situations.

If you are really gentle with the throttle on acceleration, it will allow you to accelerate from 1500 RPM in 4th/5th or 6th gear, but if you boot it at all it changes down. If you move the shifter lever into manual mode, you can hold gears down to much lower RPM.....about 1100 RPM, but mine still doesn't judder.

I'm happy to live with mine for the moment......although I do worry that someday it might fail catastrophically, and launch bits of flywheel through the bell housing/gearbox etc.

IIn my case , its consistant . Would be going this weekend to look for a compatible flywheel .
