Any Synthetic Oil deals about

Featured Replies

Hey all.

My Octavia and the wifes A3 are due a service soon. Because we run on WVO I need fully synthetic oil, I usually use whatever is on deal that is roughly right.

Anyone spotted any 2 4 1's or similar out there?

Might be worth checking out Halfrauds! I picked up 5L of Semi Syn today for a discounted price of around £17 but didn't check the Fully Syn? However 2 for 1 may just be a little optimistic?

Easy enough to do on line. ;)

It's only £25 delivered for Quantum 505 and it lasts 10k, that's £0.0025 pence per mile, is it really worth looking for a cheaper deal when it will save so little? If so then have a look at ECP if you want it now or CP4L if you can wait for delivery, Brisk25 will get you discount from ECP on non sale items but they're offering free filters ATM and lower discount.

halfords have castrol edge for under £29 a bottle at the mo

Costco are doing Edge for £29

Why would you buy 4L Castrol Edge for £29 when you can have 5L of Quantum which is a VAG owned brand and made by Castrol of all people for less money? Quantum III Longlife 5w30 is Castrol Edge 5w30.

Because its proven to be better?

Proven? I'd love to see that proof, care to share for the benefit of everyone?

chances are it is the same oil! I don't understand what the fuss is with oil if it has 507 or 504 on it then use it.

507 spec oils are low SAPS,which is pretty important for DPF equipped cars.

Quantum 3 and Castrol FST 5W30 are not the same oil, even basic check of Safety Data Sheets shows differences in viscosity, density and pour point. Both meet VW507, so both are good to use, but the way usually these things work is that Quantum is likely an older Castrol mix while current Castrol FST likely has one or more aspects improved. Hard to find what though, would need to find ash content and wear test results somewhere.

For this reason, I use Castrol Edge FST 5W30 for the DPFed Roomster, and thicker, 5W40 PD spec oil for the V6TDI Superb (last 4 changes Quantum Platinum, next 3 TripleX PD), cheaper, but even better protection against wear (and no DPF on the Superb).

That's lovely, but I didn't mention FST at all, Castrol Edge with Full Strength Technology (FST) is the latest generation of Edge produced way after Castrol and VAG created the spec. More confusingly you clearly state you believe (as I said) that Q LL3 is essentially the same product as Edge.

Castrol Edge FST is what you get at the shops now, at least I did. Quantum III Longlife is likely to be equivalent to the old Castrol SLX Longlife 3, or whatever its name was. As for the rest, both meet VW507, so let your wallet take its pick. But Castrol Edge FST is not the same as Quantum 3, as some people stated here (and in other places).
