bloody dpf

Featured Replies

wife had my vrs for 2 years just knocking about but she wanted a citigo so i said " great idea" I get my car back!

My daily comute to work is motorway 8 mile then onto an A road for 6 mile only two roundabouts i dont hangabout as its

between 4am and 5am in morning not thrashing it but .....well you know what i mean

and was thinking the dpf as been ok so when warranty up in 9 month will have remap and dsg remap but................

wed and thur after turning engine off fan on doing its thing and then yesterday was running rough you can feel it surging when its stood doing its re=generating stuff so explained to wife............ :wall: finally got there

dpf out.......remap on engine and dsg so no more problems plus 230bhp just got to wait until january

I would just go ahead at and do it now, gives you more time with the better car it will be!

What remap you looking at getting? As 230bhp seems a very good incress. Most maps ive seen go up to 210.

So the only issue is that the DPF is working as it should and performing a regen?

Or is the DPF / EML or glowplug light on?

Been told with dpf out" and remap you will get about 230 bhp or with the dpf in about 205 bhp ,,,,,,,,,,,so I am told

But thinking more of the future about the dpf....car paid for so dont want any issues later on

Oh right. Fair enougth. Learn somethings every day on here. Always thought dpf made no difrence on hp.

Maybe because of the short runs your wife has been doing and now that you are driving it a little further / harder the DPF has finally had a chance to have a good clear out.

You should find things will settle down soon enough.

was after a scout but because car is paid for wife says its daft to loose money on a p/x so can spend on remap and dpf out if that makes sense"

just heard that many things with limp mode and dpf filters would feel better if its out seen as though i am keeping car

230hp.... mmmmm i doubt it

just what ive been told but surley if its 205 bhp with dpf in then its got to be more with the dpf out .....

what ever it is it will run better when its been sharked ime sure

230 is possible but it will smoke, 220 should produce little or no smoke.

I think if you go looking for around 220 - 230 bhp you may end up with a smoky spiky difficult to drive smooth car. Most places are quoting around 210bhp for a safe reliable non smoky map but its the added torque that your really after.

From what I've seen DPF issues seem to be more common with the earlier PD engines? (though not ALL PD examples as I've also seen many comments where people haven't had any problems)

The other common things seem to be sensor related as opposed to something wrong with the DPF itself or drivers repeatedly not allowing the DPF to finish it's regen cycle, which catches up with them in the end.

Probably one of the causes of this is that the CR engine will start a partial regen when no lights are visible on the dash which results in a higher tickover and a slightly different engine noise while it's doing it's stuff which is easy to miss if you're not paying attention or are not aware what these signs mean. It happened to me and first thing I knew was similar to yourself when I got out of the car after switching it off and the fans were going flat out. Don't think that's anything to worry about and could well be a bit SWMBO related if she wasn't aware of the things to look for.

Personally I think SUK could do more to explain the whole DPF issue to it's owners including more practical advice on how to help avoid the dreaded limp home mode/visit to the dealer for a forced regen.

how do you know its doing a re-gen?

Higher RPM at tick-over (1,000 RPM).

Harder to drive smoothly in stop/start traffic (due to higher RPM and it's effects on the balance needed for the clutch and accelerator)

^^^^ +1- can smell a bit hot too as the DPF runs hotter to burn off the soot. If this happens and you can it's best to carry on driving (without switching the engine off) until the tickover returns to normal as that shows the re-gen has then finished. If you stop and switch off the fans will cut in, but by then it's too late as the car will not then continue with the regen, but depending on how far the re-gen has got through it's cycle it'll happen again (soon) when enough soot builds up to start the process off again.

ah, thats what that is. I have noticed it a bit "jerky" for no apparent reason at slow speeds then it will dissapear when i floor it. I guess when I floored it im followed by a cloud lol

In theory the cloud should have been captured by the DPF.

thanks for the advice about smoking above 220 bhp will mention this to ben at shark but ime sure he will know

the extra bhp over standard 170 will be nice but all i want is the car to run smoother with smoother changes on the dsg and no limp home modes

and decided after looking on the forum to do my wheels in a gunmetal grey
