Airprint via iPhone or iPad

Featured Replies

SWMBO has an iPhone 4s and we've just bought an iPad 4. We wanted to be able to print from the iPad so bought a wireless printer that was AirPrint compatible.

It's connected ok to the wireless network and I can print to it from Windows 7. I can see from the printer's display panel that it has an IP address on the network etc so all should be fine.

Try to print from the iPad or iPhone and it just says there's no Airprint printers found.

I've got the latest iOS updates on both iPhone and iPad. I have updated the firmware on the HP printer (Deskjet 3520) and my ISP router is running the latest firmware. It's a Haewei HG533 with version 1.14t.

Browsing various forums it seems many people have had the same problem with the HG533 or similar routers not passing Bonjour packets properly.

TalkTalk deny flat out that there is a compatibility issue with the HG533 and Airprint despite it provably being a common problem. They have suggested sending me another HG533 to see if that fixes anything. I'm dubious but I'll give it a try.

Anyone else had problems with Airprint? From what I've heard, it normally "just works" if the router is compatible.

errr, yes. provided I am on the same network there are no problems.

If you have an AirPrint printer, maybe HP have given you eprint as well?

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500A+ and I can email a document to the printer and it will print the document out. It scales down pdf's slightly, but word docs are full size.

By the way, I am using a time capsule.

Yes, I have eprint but haven't set it up yet.

My parents have a samsung printer which is wireless, to print to it from iphone / ipad I had to download and install a free app from the itunes store.

Airprint just means it uses a standard driver, you may need an app to connect to the printer. An airprint printer will only work natively if connected to an apple airport or time capsule which will broadcast the printer.

Can you remember what the app was please?

The HP website says AirPrint allows wireless printing with no setup or downloads required?

I have an officejet pro 8600 plus and can print wirelessly using AirPrint if I'm connected to the same network as my printer. If I'm not connected to that network I have the eprint option. I think the issue is more than likely your router not allowing it to happen. Im with virgin media using my superhub as a modem connected to my Cisco router as the wifi on the superhub sucked. You don't need any additional apps or to be connected to an apple airport or time capsule. All you need is your printer to be on the same wifi network as your phone or iPad

It is on the same network but still won't detect any printers. Googling the router I have suggests its a common problem, but TalkTalk say the router is compatible.

it has to be the router thats at fault. There are too many people complaining about the issue with the HG532 & HG533 not allowing airprint for it to be anything else. Although most people are saying updated firmware solves the issue

I'm also having difficulty printing from iPads. I too have recently received an HG533 talktalk badged router with 1.4 firmware and my printer is an hp 5520. After some fiddling about I managed to print wirelessly from the iMac and from windows pcs, but the ipad has defeated me. When I swap back my old linksys router everything works immediately and reliably. I can only assume that the issue is with the huawei router. I will try to contact talktalk technical support but I am not at all confident, previous experience was not very good.

Exactly but they are playing dumb. My router has the current 1.14t firmware, the iPad the latest iOS, and the printer has the latest HP firmware too.

will they supply a different router ? the one they are supplying is obviously the issue

No, I'm afraid. Bit useless really.

Use the hp e print app instead. I have same printer and ipad/iPhone. Works a treat.

Have you set your printers email address?

No, just because I'm a stubborn b'stard and I shouldn't have to! :-) But I will as a last resort if I have to.

i would just purchase a different router lol. im glad i never went with talk talk now.

New router has landed from TalkTalk today - a Huawei HG523 - and this has solved the problem. I can now print from iPad and iPhone with no problems.

Glad to hear its sorted

owe huawei hg series routers are just junk.

Tried setting on up as a bridge a few days ago, never worked of course. Allowed LAN access but not internet access and that was with talk talks settings obtained over the phone. Got another router out, perfectly fine...
